Hi,

What exactly does the mode switch do? I know that it switches modes, but what do the different modes do? Is it simply a way to switch between 3 different profiles in game?

Love the stick, dislike the crappy manual.

Pretty much like you said it.

The mode switch lets you creat multiple profiles. Each button can do a different thing for each mode. When you also use the pinky trigger as a shift button, you effectively get 6 modes for each button.

For LOMAC yes. For FB no. Just got new Saitek CYBORG for 15$ (fifteen dollars) and all it has is trigger, 3 buttons, 8-Hat, and throttle.

I bet thats more than most WW2 aircraft control columns had. The realism here is intense. Reaching all over the the cockpit (our keyboard) for controls is a Bad Thing, and was never solved until modern jets.

Just looking at the X45 makes me puke. It doesn't even *look* like a jet sim stick, but it looks like an entire spacecraft control panel. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I'm waiting for LOMAC. For FB you only have guns and cannons... so I don't use all of the stick.

Well yes, of course, but then you didn't need to press buttons to move your head around, give different messages on the radio, etc, track bogies visually, etc.

You have a point in that the HOTAS concept is anachronistic for WW2 fighters, but you have a huge amount of options in how you use the X45. You don't have to use all the buttons - I don't. I love the rotaries though - they are a more realistic way of controlling prop pitch, mixture and trim in a WW2 plane.

And yes, it does look God-awful :-)

I think, and most of my friends have commented, on how good it looks!

The MSFFB2 is an ugly stick.

The X45 is a great stick. The mode button basically lets you assign multiple commads to the same button. For instance on my X45 in mode one the D button is my radiator, in mode 2 it is map, in mode 3 it is quick start record. You can do that for each button and actually there are six modes....1,2,3,1+pinkie,2+pinkie,3+pinkie for six modes in all. For those on the realism tip...it's more "realistic" to press a button or move a slider on your stick than to press a key on a keyboard thats for sure. I dont use all the buttons.... but 90% of the functions in FB are on my stick...the other 10% I dont use. Pilots may not have had a lot of buttons on thier sticks...(probably 3 or 4 at the most) but you can be sure they had buttons & levers in the pit....and since i dont have a pit i will take the button s on my sticks.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
