Just a heads up for those that may be interested. I am downloading it just to see how bad it runs on my rig. It would be interesting to see those of you with the newer rigs & the 8800's in SLI...just how well it runs on those rigs.

Curious. I hope it is an improvement over Farcry. That game was a real bimbo. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Improvment yes sir!Big way up there. It´s stunning in every way.Do need a hefty rig though.Got an E6850,8800GTS (169.01 beta) 640mb,4gig ram.and ran it in 1280*1024 with AA/AF on 2X on high setting in game.Got a fps between 24-41,depending where you look and if you move..but it felt smooth. From what I have read it´s the Direct X9 demo, but it look stunning anyway.

Do big beefy men stand behind trees and shout these well-worn Farcry phrases?:

*Bite my ***.

*Your *** is mine!

*Eat me...

*Suck it down!

Yes and no.They´re not big and beefy but sometimes they do shout out harsh language like "a**hole, gonna get you" and stuff amongst with "cover me while I reload,"there he is" and such.

But it´s a stunning beautiful game and lots of fun.Cool suit.Feels like I´m the Predator. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Dled it, played it, veeeeeeery impressed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It's real good fun to play around with the difference 'upgrades', and interaction is great, love holding guys by the throat then smashing them into the wall http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Allows for a lot of freedom, with the ol strength or stealth options available. I played it on easy mode, but the weapons seemed pretty ridiculous, i.e. takes about 10 chest shots to down him, 1-3 head shots http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Awesome nonetheless http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

What are your rig specs

What kinda fps are you getting

And can I come over to your place and play? (I mean crysis, on your PC, before the rotten minded have their say)

Whoa, whats with the Farcry hate? That was a solid title with memorable quotes.

Can't wait to upgrade my computer. Gonna' finally take the PCIe jump and will be looking forward to playing this game. People complain that its a formulaic FPS but I say that we don't have enough of those anymore. As long as its fun, right?

Exactly FUN is the word as that is why we 'play' on our computers to get away from the sometimes boring normality of life's moments. Some think that this computer world (and all that goes on within a game- game specs,my computer is bigger than yours, this or that thing is so important to have in the game etc.)are in essence more important than they really are in the bigger picture.Sure these things can make the gaming experience more real and hopefully more FUN but in the end it is only a game-not real life so FUN should be the key reason to turn on the computer and play Games.
Crysis looks like a good shoot-em-up fun game, lets enjoy it,as we have with this game, but after all it is only a game (and a reason to spend heaps of money to upgrade our computers(bigger toys)to enjoy our FUN.

Well the fun in my context comes from the genre definitions. I have noticed that we have seen an influx of every FPS sub-genre out there except the rambo formula. People complain when a game comes out that is all simple fun shooting. They seem to think that its automatically inferior. It just angers me.

Hi I really enjoy a good FPS and have for many years so lets have fun,as I have with the IL2 series, btw Far Cry was a really good FPS with a genre that I enjoyed,so I am expecting to while away many hours with Crysis and all games I play. If it is not enjoyable why bother doing it. I have to do too many things that aren't as enjoyable as they should be so I will be stuffed if I need to subject myself to a computer experience of my own choosing that isn't enjoyable and therefore fun. We all have our own selections for enjoyable games therefore we should respect others choices as well.
Enjoy and have fun!

Gonna wait for an upgrade before getting the retail, but all in all very fun to use environment + nanosuit

Well, I played it on my crappy system. I got to the point of the jamming station at the beach before I went to bed last night.

I am playing on medium settings, and the grass, leaves, players' faces etc... all look very good! I really like the stealth mode, I just wish it lasted longer.

My system specs...

Win XP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon XP2200 OC'd to 2.1 Ghz.
1MB DDR 400mhz ram
Nvidia Geforce 7800GS

Gonna up the settings tonight to see how far I can go. This just shows that it's not gonna take a "super system" to play it. Just like it won't take a "super system" to play BoB SoW.

I installed it but seem to have gotten a free bug. All the characters, including me, as well as some scenery are invisible. Can just make out the outlines.

Will try d/l again.

Heya archermav, if that's the same problem I had, just go into advanced graphics settings in-game and change the 'shaders' to high. If it works I think you can then turn them back down to medium if it's too much of a performance hit to keep them on high.

My rig's pretty oomphy yet I had one or two probs at first until I turned screen resolution down from its usual 1680x1050 to a smaller compromise setting but now it looks great with everything on high. Very high settings are greyed out so may not be available in demo form. I still get the odd slowdown in certain scenes but there is a huge amount of stuff happening on screen all the time. All the grass, tree branches, leaves are twitching about in the wind. leaves are falling, birds in flight - and that's the one part I'm not so sure about.
The greenery's movement is very fast - almost as though sped up slightly and whilst I like the fact the shrubs, small branches, large fan leaves move aside as you crawl through, I would have thought system hits would have been much reduced if the rest of the foliage either moved slower in the breeze or not at all, as if on a still day, only moving when disturbed by people. It's nice to watch but most don't have high end systems and eliminating or slowing down this wind-blown movement would reduce system stress(I presume).

Really impressed with the destructability of just about everything - scything through trees with machine guns and seeing them fall down in front of jeeps or enemy troops is hugely satisfying. I actually laughed out loud when I shot two poor souls chatting in an outside toilet's doorway, which all promptly collapsed under the assault of their bodies and my bullets. There's something ridiculously comical about a ramshackle khazi falling to pieces on top of my victims leaving just feet poking out from under corrugated iron and timber rubble . . . I know, easily amused . . .

I'm hoping the final game will have ironed out a couple of graphic glitches. At my original screen settings I occasionally saw tearing of textures and a strange stretching of some surface colours that blocked my view. Odd black lines running between trees something like telephone wires except they were at waist level and disappeared when I got closer to them. Similarly, I see strange reflections of scenery and shadows ahead of me that ony vanish if I quickly move the mouse, plus oddly lit patches as though the torch is on - but it isn't. This could simply be driver related as I'm using earlier nvidia ones (8800GTS) that suit IL2 better - maybe someone else can offer more info on this.

Overall impression is great. The graphics, detail and lighting are quite stunning - the scenery is almost photo realistic and a joy to behold. In hard mode, the voices are in pseudo Korean etc, not english, so haven't heard any daft outbursts or taunts. I shall be buying it because it's so immersive with the stunning visuals and neat sounds; the AI react sensibly and differ in their responses each time I replay a scene amd their movements are most natural looking. Bushes and shrubs do hide you effectively, unlike the original Far Cry and I think it will set a new benchmark for shooters for some time to come. If your system can cope, order it.

I may have misunderstood, but I think you need not only the DX10 card but also Vista in order to get the very high graphic settings.

I quite enjoyed the demo, but just seems like Farcry with better trees.

Could well be the case although having seen side by side comparisons between 9 and 10, I'm not sure it's worth worrying about.

I think the attention to detail puts this in its own class. Someone earlier commented upon the number of hits required for a kill but one head shot works for me on un-helmeted troops and the enemy are mostly wearing armoured flak jackets of some sort so you'd expect them to withstand a certain amount of punishment. Up close, a sustained burst does the job.
