Blue team is dominating the '42 defense map and Jg52Dart is the most dangerous aircraft in the server (I was running around #6 or so). So I occasionally shoot those who bail, I never thought anybody noticed (excpet those I shoot, but they don't see my name).

Then, when I was flying cap, someone shot a red chute and the red complained. A split second after I said "LOL, it wasn't me for once" dart posted "Must have been Elfunko". LOL. What a compliment, he noticed. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

to each their own.....personally I have more honor than to shoot someone in a chute. I guess each person has to decide teh price of winning. Not me...Elfunko..I will make sure I look for u in teh skies over WarClouds. That is unless u use anotehr alias to fly under. You can find me under this name right here..I'm easy find....look for a Jug flying about 4000 meters and powering down from my perch.

Yep I agree that chute shooting is pretty lame in general but especially on a dogfight server. To each is own I guess but I am with Diablo on this one. If you are gonna act like that do the Blue side a favor and switch teams. We alreay have a bad enough rap. Honor is all we have left... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

You know Zen, now that you bring up the Ta...

I have come to the conclusion that I just dont like that plane. Up high it's nice, but it's a lonely flight up there.

For me, the Dora is still my 44-45 plane of choice, and the A-5 before.

Then again, the other day we were flying that Bastogne map on WC and it got dark. I noticed everyone going higher and higher to siloutte planes below them against the white ground. I got caught by a couple of P47's flying around 7k and got waxed. (I think it was the PF guys, but I cant remember) So I decided to take the Tank creation up higher and have some fun. I felt unbeatable up there between 10-11k! But anything below 7 and it feels like I am missing a few spark plugs.

I dont know if I really want to spend the effort in figuring out how to master that plane since no one ever includes it in coops, and about the only place I can ever fly it is on WC.

I am still pretty deadly with the 20mm's on that Dora, and hopefully, after the (Well I wont say the word, but it starts with a "P") we may get a little more punch back into the HE rounds of the 151/20's.

Again I will say this.. Salute to Sparx! His servers are the most entertainment in HL today (Period)

I agree. I am pretty much a noob online and had a blast Saturday on the TOH server. Most people were pretty cool and helped me out regardless of my experience. I did get shot while in chute to get my deathkick, but it was all in good fun.
I wish I could give props where due, but I really wasn't sure who was who.

S!
Just wanted to say that i having flown in both the toh and the 44+ servers it has been real fun flying with and against our usual posters. I think i have been dogfighting a couple times against Diablo's p47 when he has dropped out of nowhere on me while i was climbing to altitude. If not for some help both times i would have been toast. A Big S! to you Diablo sir, i have yet to meet someone that can handle the jug as well as you so far! As for my German comrades, i have been learning a lot from all of you and being saved by you as well.

Sparxs these are two great servers and i play these exclusively when online, just the best competition there! Keep up the great work and hope for the dedicated server patch soon!

Best regards,
Fwdreamer. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

You make a good point though..the Ta is no Dora and never will be, especially in this version of the game. At the risk of being sent on vacation by my good friend Crazy Ivan I can say that the Ta has been looked at in the beta and feels more like a D9 should...take that anyway you like, I can't elaborate http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

For me the Ta is not a replacement for the Dora, but more of a nice break if you will. I've been flying the Dora darn near exclusively since FB 1.0, so a temporary haitus seems ok to me...and I must say that the Ta has things I really like that you just can't get on the Dora. The mk108 for one thing...I have fallen in love with it lol. I used to fly the A9 with mk08's when I didn't fly the Dora but after hearing what Major Death and others had to say about the regular MG151/20's I got used to them and felt rather ghey about using big guns. Same reaon I quit flying the late 109's too...all the hype about the big guns being luftwaffe cruches made me feel awkward about using them (because maybe they really are crutches http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif). I then concentrated only on the 20mm guns to prove that I personally can live with them, ofcourse they work just fine on the A9, as they do in the Dora and so I ended up forgetting about the 108.

But now with the Ta152 I find that I simply LOVE the mk 108, much more than ever. I really really enjoy the flexibility that the 20's and the 30 gives, I feel like I have a great knockout punch in the bag if I need it. I still do the dirty work with the Mg151/20's just as in the Dora, but now if I really feel I need to put a beating on the other guy I can. Thats a nice feeling for sure http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The 108 is still not a wonder weapon or an ace maker, but you know yourself as a D9 pilot that if all you ever have are 20mm's, getting the big gun now and then is really cool. I think for me its psycological insurance probably more than anything, in the back of my mind I feel like if things get really bad I can blast off some 108 and get the job done, if all else fails.

On another note, the Ta152 really is my favorite plane of all time so flying it is a natural despite some of it's apparent shortcomings. I won't say that flying the Dora is easy overall but when a person flies a given plane a lot things can get somewhat routine. When you change to another FM things get challenging again and after so long in the D9 it's nice to spend time learing something new with the Ta.

Here I am rambling on again, but last thing I will say about the Ta152 is that it is a great low alitude fighter...dispel the myth that its only good above 8k because like Morpheus said, its all just a prison of the mind http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I do not say it is perfect or nor unbeatable, but it is quite competitive in the low altitude furball and even though it's not a really einstein-ian like thing to do, I enjoy flying down in the weeds with it. It has a nice change in FM over the D9 and the turn fighting ability is entertaining, though I repeat it's really not smart to use it down low. I'm not all that smart though, so I tend to do what makes me happy lol.

And yep, you gotta hand it to SPaRX, I can say as a server admin myself that he really has taken the DF server to a new level. Kudo's to him and his hard work.

Hehe. Bailing is an option, but so is a good ol' fashioned high speed crash landing. Drop flaps and put her down. Bet you'll have more chance of survival than hanging on the silk.

The best thing about the Ta I think is the ROF of the mg151/20. How insane is that?! I used it from 5.5-7km on a warclouds server not long ago and sent a p-38 and two p-51's plummetting. The highest they flew was 5.5km.

Was that you a few nights ago? Ta152 vs P-51 at 10,000 meters.

I pulled the 152's wing off with a 1/2 sec burst in a head-on. Gotta love the ponys gunsight.

I caught the same bird down low latter, but pulled my own wings off in the decent from 6000 meters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You know what's really funny? After a while, I can pick out some people by fighting style alone. For example, Get into a wacked rolling scissors fight with someone, and you can almost bet it's JimmyGiro. And he is pretty hard to beat if he is in a P51 while doing it! Climb up high and see a couple P-47's and it's probably the 310 guys. Put a P51 and P-39 together up high and it's GR123 Astro and his buddies. Fly along and catch the faint whine of an engine behind you followed by multiple hits (Immediately) that seemingly came from nowhere and it's probably GoodKn1ght. And find a P-40 on a latewar server like WC44+ and it's probably Leadspitter.

I will say this, however. There are the odd sorts that show up from time to time that really know their planes. I got into a fight with a P-38 at nosebleed alt the other day and was simply amazed at how well he flew that farse-tailed devil! And there are some pretty good Spitfarter pilots out there that I really like to stay away from!

I am really surprised that I havent seen a strong showing from some dedicated P-63 pilots. Have you guys not discovered that plane yet? It can do it all, and is MAD tough! You can rundown almost anything in level flight, have a tremendous amount of punch close-in, but can attack long range with the .50's if you like. I know if I were a dedicated Allied flyer, I would prefer it to any plane. I really like it! (Except for that weird red interior light glow that makes your pipper look pink!

The P-51 would be my second choice as this thing can do everything well, and some things great!

I really dont know how I got on track about planes, but one last thing. What is up with the P-47? It is nothing like what I have read about that ugly thing! It should dive and zoom like nothing else, but it is really just average in the game. The engine should be like a battering ram, but I think Willie slipped some Paper-Benz engines into it in this sim. And I always thought (But was probably wrong) that the preferred attack against turning planes was the vector roll. That thing rolls like a dead horse! My hats off to you Jug pilots that can make this (Exceptionally UGLY plane) work. Up very high I fear it, dont get me wrong, but even at medium alt (4-7k) it wouldnt be my plane of choice.

Oh, BTW... Diablo; you are really a closet LW pilot. You fly like one for sure! Give in to the dark side and fly the Butcher Bird! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sigh...it must be a badge of honor for Elfunko to shoot chutes. What is to be gained by acting like an ***? Accidental chute shooting happens, no doubt. But, to brag about chute shooting is just lame and poor sportsmanship.

I was in the same server and had this DA shoot my rear gunner of my IL2 while he was in his chute. Now, if he had shot my pilot, which was my last before being kicked, I would of been pissed. So, chute shooting will get the same response from those unfortunate pilots who are their last spawn. It's no way to make friends Elfunko. But then again, the chute shooting mentality already shows a disregard for sportsmanship and only serves the ego of the shooter.

So, yes, I did notice. Congrats! YOu've earned your place in the noob rollcall.

Why not kill pilots in a scripted DF where the objective is to kill 30 enemy pilots to win the map? Isn't that the point? Worse things can happen, like shooting down a friendly. (I admit I did it once, in a P-40. B-239 with yellow nose looked "Axis" to me, in the heat of battle. Oops!!)

I got a thankyou from one pilot on Sunday when I lined up his chute, then breaked turned at close range around him....

I've only just had my 1st online experience (and a lot of the difficulty settigns!) on the weekend... The TOH server was probably the most fun, once I figured out how not to stall... I had a great scramble on one take off, a fellow P-51 was hot on my tail close enough that I felt obligated to turn the instant my wheels were off the deck lest I get run into. (I could hear his engine almost as well as i could my own!)

I always seemed to get myself into furballs where I was outnumbered three to one.. need to learn teamwork I think, though I was generally able to survive by heading for the deck and trying to fly my pursuers into the ground.

Anyways... I'm looking forward to locking horns with some of you guys next weekend, this time I might get few more kills and get my ratio above the 2kills:3losses that it currently seems to be at.

Just had some fun on there again with G6A/S. Plenty of kills including a close fight with a P-39 (ended with me on his tail him chain smoking, but I ran out of ammo), that was a TX guy (he plinked me with .50's, the 37mm missed thankfully). Got a ton of P-51's. Didn't shoot a single chute. Possibly I feel differently about shooting soviet chutes than I do about shooting American/British chutes...
