What an aircraft!

Having played around with 4.07 for a few days now the Tempest has shot to the top of my list of flyables.

The overheat has disappeared! I can now cruise around at 85% throttle/WEP engaged and 330 mph without overheating the engine, and still have a couple of minutes full emergency power when things get hairy.

The Hispano Vs are unsynched! A touch of the trigger is now greeted with a steady stream of 20mm projectiles. Setting up some QMB missions against Ju-88s and He-111s and watching them get smashed by a river of ammunition was fantastic. No more "hit and miss" with the cannon, just drag your line of fire straight through the target.

The handling is superb. Some of the twitchy-ness in the controls has disappeared and the tail doesn't want to flick around anymore. Coming out of turns properly coordinated is beautifully simple, even with my Logitech twisty stick.

All in all, as a fan of the "Brute force brigade " (FW-190A, P-47s, J2Ms and the Tempest) 4.07 couldn't be any better for me.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Fantastic news!
Just wondered how many JU88s and HE 111s, the Tempest actually shot down. During WW2?

From the list of Tempest victories I can see:

10 x Ju-88
6 x Ju-188
1 x Ju-388

But no He-111s

There are also a few Do-217s, a dozen Me-262s, a couple of Ar-234s, a single Hs-162 a whole mess of Messerschmitts and a fock load of FW-190s among assorted others.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Also remember that the RAF didnt count ground kills as 'victories'. The Tempest probably destroyed a lot more planes

Tempests arrived on the scene about the same time that the Luftwaffe declared the Heinkel's to be no longer useful enough to put fuel into thus the lack of Heinkel kills.

Sounds like the Tempest got even better which is great to hear! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I gather that the USA included them, is that correct?

Planes destroyed on the ground were counted separately, not as air kills.

It's still tail happy but not near as bad. If you fly it a lot you should really notice the difference as it doesn't seem to get completely out of control when you're trying to walk the stream of 50's into a target.

FYI - I also haven't messed with the joystick settings (did a fresh install) so there is still room for improvement. My guess is you will be pleased.

Always thought the same - until I saw the Tempest II (???the one with the radial engine)

Hey there is one He 111 on 1st of May. Very interesting is that until 30th of April vast majority is fighters. 1-3rd of May majority is an odd mix of bombers and transports with some rare and old machines among them.
Why?
Could it be that 'some fellas' tried to be flown to 'safer' places for the war end?

Agree 100%!

It seems that all heavy fighters have now better caracteristics in dive and in energy retention.
Tempest is a joy to fly now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif (i only tested it offline: giving hell to all japanese types set on ace). Have to test it more...

Fw190A has also improved a bit, in my opinion.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Oh yes, I have noticed that overheating has definitely been reduced in pretty much all planes, especially once you open the radiater.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I can definatly confirm that the energy modeling has reached new heights in this sim.
All heavys (Antons, Jugs, Tempests) retain a lot more energy then they did in 4.04.
The 190 is pure deadlyness now, if you keep the speed above 400 km/h.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Today I taxied the Tempest into a hangar on the NW Europe map and restarted the engine. Took me 3 goes to get it going, like it wasn't compressing or something, which was neat. Is this new? First time I've never been able to start a piston engine first time, every time.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
