Great pictures!!

Little detail, but the Spitfire has it's proper Malta armament as well- 2 browings instead of 4. Lovely attention to detail

I'm loving the calk on the cowlings as well http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

whats the story on the mkV spit? is it from the museum there, or was it actually flown in? ive never seen that scheme on a restored spit before, so im curious. also, it appears to have the flat canopy of hte first prototypes.

thanx for hte pics.

It was flown in along with Hurricane from the UK along with a re-enactment team in period clothing! As far as i know the blue scheme represents the scheme used here in Malta at some point.

Glad you all like!..got lots of modern a/c pics from the day as well..interested?
( B1-B, Tornado F3,Harrier etc...)

Taken from the Historic Aircraft Collection website,
"The combat veteran Spitfire Mk.Vb BM597 was built at Castle Bromwich and delivered on 26th April 1942. It served with 315 and 317 (Polish) Squadrons RAF at Woodvale before sustaining damage whilst landing on 13th February 1943. It was repaired, but is thought to have seen no further action. After the war BM597 was assigned to several 'gate guardian' postings finishing up at RAF Church Fenton. Acquired by Historic Aircraft Collection in 1993, it was restored to original specification and flies now in the colours of 317 Squadron, though in an earlier camouflage paint scheme".

The blue colour scheme is a water based paint that was applied to the aircraft while they were on carries during WW2, and washed off when the aircraft arrived on the island.
The paint scheme is temporary on the Spitfire and will be removed after the visit.

Hope that helps.

Hey guys, was about to post a thread about the Malta Airshow when I found this post. I've got some other material you guys would appreciate, but the details and resolution isnt that good. Hope u enjoy anyways..im a proud Maltese eager to share a part of our history with you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Check this link:
(video of spit & hurri flypast, check the merlin sound!)
http://dosanddonts.anthonyfcamilleri.net/Airshow/Spit&Hurri_Flypast.zip (http://dosanddonts.anthonyfcamilleri.net/Airshow/Spit&Hurri_Flypast.zip)

There should be 2 movie files showing the 2 aircraft flying past..you'll appreciate sound more than imagery, cuz i only had my webcam to shoot with, but at least its better than nothing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

hope u like and wonderful pics!
