One of the biggest mistakes in my first(and as of yet only)career is installing radar to my U-boat. It's annoying that it's impossible to turn it off(even if my radioman position is empty and i turn it off manually, when i go back to the radar screen, it's turned back on again)and i've never had any help from it being turned on.

So, is there some way i can have it removed from my U-boat while between patrols? I know i can "buy" another U-boat and then don't bother to get a radar, but that costs a whole lot of renown points.

Jump down next to the deck gun, armed with a reel of wire. with each individual transmitter element..

Wind one end of the wire one it, the other end connect to the sub chassis..

Stand back and tell you radio guy to transmit BOOOOOOMMMMMM ???
Oh yes don't forget to tell him to have the fire extiguisher ready http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Problem solved --- RL that is...

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif I've read about this issue. I can't say it has become a real problem for me yet. The supposed solution is to first turn off the radar manually while the radioman is occupying the position, and then remove him from the position until you wish to do something with the radio or the radar. This does seem to work in my experience, but I haven't been using radar too long, so perhaps issues may yet arise.

I know that mine is on by default at the start of a patrol and I have to manually turn it off with a radio man at the station. If he's not there, he turns it back on when I put him back.

The radar is useful in fog and rain but it can attract more attention of the wrong kind. I use the "single sweep" mode.

Sonar is the same, only has limited uses, mainly to attract the attention of an escort I wish to sink. I'm not sure it was the intended use.

In other words;
i'll use the renown cheat i read about, then buy a new Type IXC sub with all the stuff i had on it minus radar, then "restore" back to my original renown.

the radar is actually nice to have . ive burned down many of convoys in shut out fog , with the help of the radar , plus it works pretty well with manual targeting in the fog too.i just take the radioman out of their when i dont need it.

If you turn the radar off manually from the radar station 'R', then it stays off.

If you load a save game and you are surfaced then the radar will automatically turn back on.

About a sonar... I find it extremely useful with manual targeting, when you cannot get an accurate distance measure in heavy seas. All you do is ping 3 or 4 times and fire away. My very first time doing it I sunk a V&W destroyer from 3500 meters, hit it dead center http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Another trick with sonar is to make sure that your notepad is cleared of old data first.

If you have data from 1 minute ago and you start pinging, your pinger will try to average the range with the old data.

I usually only ping once and ask for an exact solution. With the notepad cleared the data is correct enough though not perfect.
