About three years ago I was at an electronics store and out of pure boredom wound up with a copy of this sim. To say that IL2 has had all my attention is an understatement. So there sat this sim for the last four years. Today I had a great IL2 day. I was a little burned out and decided to try something different. I threw it in my soon to be reformated machine as just something to see.
I am a Bottom Line Up Front kind of guy. Here is the skinny. This is Not a combat sim. It is a beautifull Helicopter Sim. There are no guns here. It may as well be MS FSX or something. But unlike that money waste, I actually liked SAR 4. This is Helicopter Nirvana. No simplified model here! You got to actually fly these things. And the scenery Oh, the beautifull scenery.... The canyon scenery is especially Gorgeous. A really funny feature is your copilot who waves and gets excited as you get wild with the controlls. He cowards and hides his face as you are about to crash. He is hillarious. There are quite a few maps and to be honest except for the water it is really nice. I have only spent two hours on this sim including setup, whitch by the way was a snap. I have not rescued anything or anyone. I have flown and crashed A LOT. Landing is pretty uhmmm... realistic. The pretty trees really do hurt you. The cities look cool and there are realistic looking people walking around. The scream and run if you buzz them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif He he Cockpits are beautifull and it looks to be entretaining. I cant wait to be good enough to really sling the chopper though that canyon. Now, I am not saying I am about to leave the combat flight arena, But I will give SAR 4 a big http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Anyone else here give this a try?

Ok, only buy this game if you really love helos and can get it for cheap. Beyond my chopper that is a river.

My geeky co pilot and a view of a small town out in the canyon. I like the detail

I love S&R4. I find it really imersive, compleX enough without being too complex to fly.
The feeling of tension as you race towards a hospital whilst your casulty is slowly dying in the back is immense.
It's also good to shut up the missus when she moans that all your 'games' are about killing people.

I feel the need to reinstall this now. I used to love picking someone up with the winch then swinging them into a cliff or structure like a human conker. Or just flying along at high speed with them dangling a few feet above the ground. I don't think I'd make a very good rescue pilot.
