We, the creators of the German yin the Pacific campaign, are in need of help regarding japanese markings and the way and reasoning they were applied to the planes.

Of particular interest are these tail bands:

So whoever could provide some inside and information is welcome.

In regards to the tail bands:

I believe they indicate which aircraft carrier the bird was attached to.

In your example the two blue fuselage stripes and the tail designator leads me to conclude that that aircraft was assigned to the Hiryu.

A search of the net leads to this breakdown of codes:

one red, AI-, Akagi
two red, AII-, Kaga
one blue, BI-, Soryu
two blue, BII-, Hiryu
1 white, EI-, Shokaku
2 white, EII-, Zuikaku
1 yellow, DI-, Ryujo

Only a partial listing but hope it helps.

Great to hear something from the campaign again!
I thought that the project was long dead because there weren't any news or updates (i saw).

Can you tell us how far advanced the project is?

I am glad that there is still interest in this; as we also thought that it had died when we could not agree on the specifics.

But as it went there is a good chance of it beeing completed.
As we concive it now it will be "sleaker" then the old plans; maybe even divided in seperate parts.
The problem back then was to press all the great ideas the community and we had about it into a comprehensive story - just impossible in the end.

I hope to start regular updates in the near future.
