This American just got 46 from GoGamer before Christmas. $39.99 plus tax and shipping. And lovin'it. I was a little scared after reading about all the FPS problems others were having, but my copy runs smooth as glass on my low/mid range machine (AMD62 2.3 ghz, 2 gig, GF6600)with perfect settings and water = 1.

My first new plane to try was the Ki-27, followed by the NIK2, Ta182, Pe 2/3, and, yes, the Lerche, which turned out to be a guilty pleasure trying to land safely. By now I've taken every new plane up at least once. The Kiev and Manchuria maps were great, but I thought we would also get Norway? If I had a disappointment, it would be that almost all of those "1000 new skins" the publicity mentioned were all created for the '46 what-if planes, instead of giving us some more skins for real planes. I did like the speculative camo on the soviet jets and B-29/Tu4, though. I was a more than a little surprised there were no insignia for KI27s and Ki43s in the Manchukou AF.

Also, I guess Oleg and co are never going to fix the completely incorrect default US insignia which has stayed with this sim since the beginning. The star is entirely within the circle, guys. How hard can that be? Hopefully I will get my IL2MAT to work with '46.

It does seem the German jets are somewhat porked in comparison with 4.05, especially the new ones which look so darn fast. I could hardly push the Ta182 past 500mph at 1000 meters, which seems slow for a pretend nazi wonderjet.

But these are merely quibbles. '46 is (presumably) the last major iteration of the absolutely best combat flight sim ever and is an excellent finish. Assuming it is really a finish, considering the strange "unnamed" next project talked up on the RRG website.

I have never understood why the US national insignias and markings have been so horrbly messed up in this game. Even with MAT-Manager, we are limited to an area on the plane that is not large enough for any of the "star and bar" insignias, which were standard from August 1943 on!! (roughly half of the US involvement in the war...)

Don't even get me started on the cheesy, completely inaccurate fuselage numbering that was obviously a rush job on 4/5 of the US fighters used in the ETO. (They got the lettering schemes correct for RAF usage of the same planes, go figure.)

What really makes this sad is that most of these problems would have been a snap to fix in one of the many patches we have had.

Historically accurate markings are sadly lacking in this series. The RAF markings (except on the Tempest) are done with the wrong colors, in the wrong positions, with the wrong sizes. Even the German and Russian markings, which are decent, are not great and meerly pass off as decent. Its fortunate that 90% of American aircraft in the game and 99% of frontline American aircraft in Europe have custom skins with the markings painted on in an accurate fashion.
