HI

I currently have the following set up:

MS FFB2 Joystick
CH Pro Throttle
Ch Pro Pedals

They all work fine but i was thinking of buying Saitek X52 Pro Flight system for the extra button funtionality etc? Mainly rotarys for trim etc.

I probably would miss the FFB but then again it can be a bit OTT sometimes throwing an extra issue to my gunnery skils http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif so i'm thinking no great loss.

I was just wondering what the forums thought/ experience was regarding this? or any advice etc?

cheers

I do sometimes think i`m doing a slight disservice to my gunnery skills with the MS FFB2 Joystick, since the shake of the cannons do affect my shooting accuracy (especially if I do a long burst). this is especially noticable when flying low and getting turbulence too.

I`ve watched my squad m8s effortlessy shoot a target while I`m having problems...

But I do like the immersive feel of the shake.

Yeah exactly Seafire I agree 100% not to mention i find the actual MS joysticks base buttons location a pain! thats whats got me thinking of the X52 gains

- more functionality (night lights, rotarys, easy to reach joystick buttons)and much less gunnery issues.

Very tempted

You have the best joystick now. I just turn off the forcefeedback when concerned about it effecting shooting accuracy.

The best throttle and rotary setup is on the Cougar throttle unfortunately it must still be connected to the joystick which I leave under my desk.

I would say stick with the ffb2.

Ok the basebuttons are not so nice, and there is not rotarys and that kind of things, but I have noticed one thing. I can fly much closer to the stall with ffb on, and it is much more authentic. Just disable gunshake effect and it won´t affect your gunnery. The bad thing with ffb gunshake is that you get double the gunshake that others have, as it is already in the game.

I tried other joysticks, everything felt like toys, or did not have any feel to them, or looked like they had been taken from spaceship.

If you do not mind the cheap Chinese-toy feel, the incredibly light tension, and the ridiculously futuristic look, then I'd say go for the X52.

Otherwise, stick with the FFB2. Or maybe get a CH stick. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I would highly recommend getting a CH Fighterstick and getting one of these mods for it: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v179/531Ghost/100_0109.jpg

It's called a franken-potato and adds 6 3-position momentary switches as well as 2 rotaries to your CH Pro Throttle.

Then all three of your controllers will be available in the CH Control Manager software thus opening up considerably more functionality and considerably improved precision and durability.

Well might be convinced lol

TGD! Where did you get that mod?

Here in the UBI forums, he goes by Ken-Ghost-King http://forums.ubi.com/eve/personal?x_myspace_page=profile&u=9131084493

But perhaps a better place to find him would be over at the CH-Hangar: http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php

when im shooting, espacially at higher ranges , i dont "touch" the FFB actiavation (sorry, i dont have the words to explain - in general i but my three other fingers forward, away from the stick), so i can shoot without FFB effect.

i look actually in horror into the time when my MS FFB2 will not work anymore ..............

why don't you download the modified forcefeedback files that tone down the shake from shooting?

actually scratch that. Yeah, ffb is a pain in the ***. Why don't you send your ffb sticks to me? I can dispose of them properly.

Use Joytokey to increase the number of buttons.

You only need spring and shake in the forcefeedback file in the 1946 program.

Disable return to centre tension in the sidewinder software or joystick properties, or else it will act as if it has a mind of its own.

I dont use the gunshake. The MSFFB2 is the best joystick ever made. FFB will give you what no spring ever could... just keep your current setup and turn off the FFB.. you will still get the stick forces on the control surfaces... You might also want to consider either getting the

Saitek throttle quad,or the CH throttle quad (http://www.provantage.com/ch-300-133%7E7CHPU00M.htm) or getting another joystick and just taking it apart and mounting it in a box of some kind. I modified my X-45 joystick by taking the guts of the stick and mounting them on the side of the throttle..

this way I have the best of all worlds... a HOTAS, great FFB, pedals & TIR....

Sure. I use the modified FF files which are good, but the shake is still enough to put a guy slightly off precision. Also, I`ve tried moving my fingers away from the detector on the stick, but it still shakes (maybe fingers too big?) and on top of that my grip on aiming and flying then gets even worse!

But you can have my stick for $10500.

I prefer the stock FFB to the modified ones... They all seem limp, the stock ones just seem to be the strongest I can find.

But I fly without FFB on.

My MSFFB2 would have to be pried out of my cold hands....

I too have CH Pro Throttle and pedals, you can program the throttle to do pretty much anything.
Use the mini stick mode select to add another 200% to the available buttons on it...

Sadly the programming doesn't extend to re-programming the organic side, my brain struggles!

I added a CH Quad and that made my set-up complete, I have trim x 3 on a slider, prop pitch and feather, flaps (never use it as it usually results in jammed flaps 'cos my pre-flight discipline is non-existant) and I still have a slider free....on the quad and one on the MSFFB2.

I used to use my X45 with the MSFFB2, and that was good.
You could do the same and use the stick just as a 'button bay', and still have the precision and FFB of your MSFFB2.

OK i'm convinced to keep hold of my current setup (MSFFFB2 etc) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have altered the FFB to light settings (file from M4T)but still the controls seem a little unruly. I am using IL2 1946 now, running on Vista64 fine. So I'll try removing all FFB except spring and shake as suggested. Although i do seem to be struggling getting smooth transitions on stick even after messing about with sensitivity / filtering etc but I guess that can be addressed in a seperate post.

I think the CH Quad might well be a suitable alternative for assigning trims etc so I will consider giving that a go too! Also i was looking at touch buddy - any thoughts/comments on this?

N.B 4got to mention I also use TrackIR4 so that takes care of views etc leaving hat controls free.

Anyway thanks for your input and helping me make an informed choice. great advice from all.

Cheers all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think i remember telling you to get mantis's files on a thread you started not too long ago. Did you listen to me or get the other ones?

I use mantis's and the stick shake when shooting does not come in the way at all. Just a tiny little deedee bump to let you know you still havent run out of ammo, but not enough to actually move the stick in my hand.

I agree with Pyrres here, unbelievable but true about flying closer to stall. I also noticed the difference. I came from a Logitech Extreme 3D, bought myself a MSFFB2 from some guy on the internet for 5 euro!! He really didn't knew what he was selling.

The plain never felt this good! I say keep it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Was that you? It was a long while ago and i took this file off one of my saved DVDs, but it was probabaly form you then. Thnx for that.

To be honest, the shake isn`t all that bad, I got used to it. besides I wouldn`t sell the stick anyway (well maybe for 10500 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

Well I re configured my Joystick again - using a different config (The authors) from the "stick Setup tread".

http://www.airwarfare.com/tech/sticks.htm#006

And that seems much better for me in terms of sensivite - Great!

Removed all FFB files from ForceFeedback folder in IL2 except for shake / Spring (as suggested) and HORRAY ! It Feels great!!! Still get a tad of shake from guns I think but nothing OTT like before....ALL IN ALL ..FANTASTIC!

Just need to sort out Hyperlobby and TrackIR lol - (See Other threads).

Still considering getting CH Quad as suggested - to sort out trim allocation etc.

Many Many thanks for all help... I am getting ALOT more kills now.
