http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif WHY not get FB fixed correctly before we make another Sim? Do you actually think i am going to buy another sim from Maddox games if this one isnt supported even since i already bought the expansion pak. I am clearing a spot on the coffee table for the new IL2FB beer coasters right next to the worn out CFS3 coasters. Because if your support which up till now has been great, gets anything like Micro softs support of thier CFS games then you will have lost a valued supporter and customer. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

H-Angels, come ON. You can't EVEN say FB hasn't been "supported". Even if they do have to start from scratch to create BoB, FB will be, warts and all, its own complete separate entity.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif First of all i never said there was no support, But when the new game comes out FB support will drop dramatically. Youll see it's a matter of dollars and cents, or ruebles. And by We it is meant as, you, them, they. You would have know this had you finished High School english. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

why stick a pinto engine into a sportscar?

You want to try to get that pinto engine to do what a sportscar engine does - or do you realize you need to build a new engine to fit that sportcar rightly...

I welcome BoB, and hope the experience from IL2/FB will be a positive one, a step that was needed to take another big step.

Seeing as Oleg says he'll be supporting the FB engine upto or past the relase of Battle of Britain I find it kind of hard to sustain this argument.

New planes are still coming, a Pacific Addon Pack is rumored (well some kind of addon pack is coming), we've got an expansion pack around the corner....and this is all for a game that was released a year ago! Thats impressive levels of support not commonly seen.

But we know the FB engine can't do everything that we want and everything that Oleg wants SO...its time for a new engine and I think Battle of Britain is a logical starting location for a launching of a new series of WWII flight sims with an engine that was designed from the ground up to potentially cover every theater of operations in WWII.

Not to mention that BoB isn't slated until 2005 and I'd suspect that it won't be until late 2005. Still lots for them to do yet...

By 'fix' do you mean:

(a) fix bugs/FM/DM issues
or
(b) Add features

(b) would make the code very messy and make (a)
harder. I also suspect the code has got a bit
messy trying to fix (a) so (a) is quite hard.

Sometimes it is easier to start from scratch
than fix something up, using the valuable
knowledge you got from the original attempt.

In every software bigger than 200 MB is some kind of mistake or "mistake"... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I look foward to the BoB for the following reasons:
1) IL2 series has been a major testing ground, alongside with its community feedback. Oleg now knows what to do and should have knowledge HOW to do it. I expect of BoB to have far less code limitations, thus allowing for more fixes and "fixes", features and neat polishments.
2) BoB will run (hopefully) on brand new GFX/FM engine, allowing us to experience the unexperienced, see the unseen, damage the undamageable and touch the untouchables. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If it will support terrain damage model, then I WILL be close to orgasm on that one! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif As I see it, the IL2 GFX model has been pushed to (and sometimes slightly behind) its limits. We need to stay up-to-date people! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
2) BoB should sport an aircraft close-to-perfection models, featuring internal structure for each aircraft, with more complex damage detection routine. Doesn't THAT sound sexy already? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
3) Finally - BoB is small step for whiners, but huge leap for airkind... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Let's move to something new, with new errors and things to whine about... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I follow the series since 2001, and I must say - no other sim game had so much attention from its developer AND its community. No other sim game had so many free patches and addons. No other sim game has so many whiners and "whiners". But since we all whine about something, that means that we just love this game and are willing to devote it our time and energy - and that counts for something, doesn't it? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

That doesn't sound sexy at all. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Sounds more like same old "errors" in a new coating. I'd rather prefer less emphasis on eyecandy and more emphasis on functionality and playability.

FB is already a very pretty sim, but it's not like it's not plagued by a lot of visibility issues.

I'd hope that with BoB they find logical and adequate solutions for those visibility issues before spending more time on getting the close up eyecandy even more stunning.

I'll let you in on a secret but don't tell anyone:

software developers are in the bussiness of selling games for money.

There you have it, making games is not about charity. Although a lot of people seem to think it is when they fall in love with a game.
Too much of anything can be bad for you, including Love I guess. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As a developer you'll have to release new games now and then, they'll sell to your existing audience and have a much bigger pontential to tap into new audiences.

By the time BOB is released the IL2 series will have reached a _very_ respectable old age. A lot of things will be learnt from it and will affect the way BOB is built.
Sure, there will be problems with it upon release but given Maddox's proven track record they'll do a good job in fixing them.
We are not looking at an IL2 2 "with added graphics" here. This is (potentially) going to be much bigger because of the modular approach. So try to look past the bugs upon release, and let go of IL2 when the time comes. It's life. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I see what Hells saying here i think.
We have been used to the CFS style every few years release syndrome, you bought it installed spent the rest of the year fixing it with 3rd party support.
IL2 was released and suddenly we get things never seen before and unheard of support, I mean what other flight sim has this level of contact with its creator??
We have got used to the Wow factor here the great planes the scenery water etc and seem to expect it as the "norm".
Before Oleg's and 1c's IL2 Sturmovik we had cheat infested skies in most flight sims, and I for 1 will probaly never go back to them, but back to Hells post yes were getting more releases of addons and extras but thats business things are different from the old days of being sold a sim every 2 years, I welcome the new coding/engine etc even though it means a trip to the bank to run the new software.

I´m also looking forward to BOB VERY MUCH!

I´ve heard BoB will use a new kind of AI which allows lots more aircraft airborne, this I see as a requirement to model battle of britain. Many engagements included over 100 AC, FB can´t do this.
If BoB allows damaging terrain so you can bomb holes in runways, this would make online games more interesting I think.

IL2/FB sure is a fine WW2 fighter-sim, but thats all in my opinion. The reason fighters even existed was the bombers, you did´nt want them shot down.
I hope BOB will focus on the WW2 airwar instead of just WW2 dogfighting, thus making it more realistic not in terms of FM/DM etc. but in terms of the historical recreation of the WW2 airwar...

IL-2 products are the best flight sims on the market hands down. Im looking foward to BoB and any other 1c/maddox games in the future. Im not saying that the game is perfect but its better then its compition. Most whinning is done is complaining about il-2 compared to rl not other games that should tell you something right there.
S~ and good hunting

okay, well...
It's nice to have all this eye candy, and high poly models and all that good stuff, but the developers have to keep FPS in mind. Look at what happened to CFS3, basically has been thrown away by 50% of the people who bought it becuase their computer simply couldn't play it, even if you have a good computer. Anyways, one more question. Will BoB still have Open GL? Because I seem to like open gl more then Direct X.
