Was doing a little research for my next Co-OP Mission when I found this: It the Rabaul Airstrip covered in ash!

It's hard to tell from the lighting conditions. It could just be earth.

I saw it on Google Earth and just found this on the net.

During the war, the foul, revolting thing was constantly belching smoke. The Japanese felt like they were defending Hell itself.

They moved the airport away, south east across the bay, the new one can be seen there at the tip of the pennisula (low res however).

Capital was moved too.

Unhealty to have one of the most active vulcanoes at about 3000m from the airport... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif
