Don't get me wrong, the new trailer is just awesome, and in no way am i saying that the game is any less awesome then before http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I am blown away by how its packed full awesome awesomeness!

I have seen a number of clipping errors, just after the fade and the flying birds, the second combat move (the upper cut elbow) his sword sheathe passes right through the guard, also some clipping errors with his cloths and some dust appearing in the middle of his leg as he is jumping across the beams above the street. and i may be wrong but i think when he twists the guys arm, he is not actually still grasping his sword if you look! and there are some others i can remember but i know there are more!
im just saying because... i don't know, maybe some people would like to know or something, i think its awesome anyway! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I think clipping is impossible to avoid in a game like this.

The clipping has improved greatly since last X06 trailer, I'm very pleased with the results.

I certainly don't mind some clipping, you have to understand those actions you mentioned happen so fast you probably have other things on your mind than watching the screen with surgical precision for clipping errors..

I agree completely with you, they wont bother me! but they may bother other people http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey all,

I'm not a wizzkid, but I was wondering. Why don't they make robes and dust as solid as walls? In the game you can't walk through the walls because they are made solid. Why don't they make all the other objects solid as well? This means that dust or your legs can't go through your robe...

Again, I'm not a wizzkid and I guess it isn't as easy as I suggest, but still... it gets me confused...

Because of the thousands of animations that would have to be added every time a dust particle bounced off you etc. There'd also be the fact that if clothes were "solid", your attacks would just bounce off, and it would be very difficult to switch between solid and clothing physics in real-time. It's not as simple as making something "solid", computers can't work out what to do without additional coding :\

EDIT: You'd also need to take into account that for every time clothing would move it would need a different collision detection model...

Well, there you have it: I officialy don't know a thing about computers haha. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif Thanks for the explanation.

Just because you don't have coding knowledge doesn't mean you don't know about computers! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

Game hasn't been released yet...
Always time for improvement

i've been in portugal for a week. what new trailer?

Quicksilver, chek the threads about the subject (there's a load of new interviews too).

About the clipping, it indeed can't be avoided. Alta´r's robe will also clip through his legs once in a while I think. Avoiding that would take a huge amount of calculating.

no, it just needs clever programming.

If all it required was clever programming then it would have been done by now. There are plenty of brilliant coding minds in the videogame industry and I'm sure one of them could have figured it out. It's just not that easy.

Clever programming doesn't help at all. The game has to calculate the way the cloth folds around the legs, and the more precise that is, the more calculating you need.

how about, no one bothered in the past with it because there wasn't enough computational power?

just because you did not see an implementation so far, doesn't mean it cannot be done.

one example (http://www.q4rt.de) of something that can be done, but it's not common yet in games.

I saw the site delt with Ray Tracing and didn't read much past that. If I remember correctly ray tracing simply allows for realistic movie graphics, not necessarily collision detection or anything like that. Though I very well could be wrong because I read about it a good while ago...

Ray tracing is about lighting and shadows and stuff. Doesn't have anything to do with cloth physics.

I made some little collision animations myself, and it simply needs a lot of calculating. Face it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

the collision detection is still being worked on.

And you know this information from where?

i was gonna make a thread on this. the first slow mo combat scene, the guard's sword goes directly through altair's, then bounces back http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif but like everyone else said, it seems too hard to adjust it perfectly and things would move too fast to notice. however, i think the euphoria engine may fix all of the clipping errors for any game soon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

+ a new one i noticed is when he is riding on the horse his cape goes right through it!

But yes, unfinished game, most of it should be fixed, and its not that major anyway, I only started this thread to nit pick things, because i think it gives a clue to where the game is at in development.

i was under the impression that euphoria was for AI - DMM maybe? there are worries that it uses too much power to make all items DMM and only certain items will use it, it appears in the new star wars (and i think the new indiana jones) games.

I am sure that with the advent of a "majority" dedicated physics card so that game developers only need to support 1 or 2 brands, there will be a large jump in game technology

you'll also notice that when Altair rides up and slices at the guy who tossed the rock the sword barely even touches the guy...

annoying

clipping errors really annoy me sometimes and i know the game is still in the making and i really hope that these errors small as they maybe dont becoome freqent throughout the game

i know nothing about computers and all this DMM stuff i just hope they fix all the minor details of the game

thanx

in the first public demo, jade mentioned that there would be glitching and popping at the time and that it would be fixed. there are some pretty obvious glitches that i doubt they would miss.

ah yeah, but i figured with physics developed like that, clipping wouldn't be a problem since it reacts so lifelike on its own. But, it takes a lot of power to use euphoria right?

The Euphoria engine is really amazing, but the new star wars game is supposed to be out on the ps2 aswell as ps3 and 360 +pc maby. So that means that it can't take that much power to use. I noticed on an test video that the guy watching the person testing the engine said "This takes a lot of processing power, right?" and the engine tester said "Yes, but we will optimise it for the different consoles" That might mean that the 360 and ps3 will have much better graphics, but the engine will have the same reactions to the different materials on all of them. The level of detail and graphics you see in the euphoria engine test videos will probably only be that good for the 360 and the ps3.
