The upcoming patch...

I'm not seeing a lot of focus on the Pacific Theatre. No new islands to hop and harrass in the Pacfic.

Set me straight if I'm missing something. I've not spent much time around these boards since early December.

We're getting the Ki-100, Betty, and a few more pacific planes and a new Pacific map. We are not getting any more American pacific plane though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

the patch will contain at least 1 pacific map, the cockpit for the betty, the Ki-100, possibly the B6N as AI (maybe flyable if Zneg gets it done in time), and maybe the J2M3 cockpit, and possibly a couple of others.

The Mosquito is an aircraft which served in the Pacific, and it should appear in the patch, the Mk.IV as AI, and the Mk.VI as flyable.

Not sure if there's anything else, but there also a few ground objects being added (seabee bulldozer, and some artillery I think).

I hope you don't forget that this game is more then pacific/american alone...

Now, unless you've been in a cave the last few months, you should know the reason why there won't be any more american aircraft in the game. Flyable or AI.

Lots of aircraft that are being included now have been built since before Pacific Fighters was announced. Its just the fruition of those projects.

But there are new PF oriented things coming. Ki-100 flyable, Betty flyable, B6N (possibly a flyable), we've heard rumors of a flyable N1K-1J or even a 2J, the J2M3 flyable, and there's supposed to be a new map although I'm not sure what of. Hopefully its a useful map.

The other thing is that Oleg sometimes doesn't annouce things because they may or may not appear in the final product. There may be some things in here that we don't know about yet for any theater....who knows.

"pacific/american alone"

It is for those of us who bought it as a Stand Alone sim!

As even the most ardent fan of Il2+FB can see that us PF Stand Alone owners have been treated as 2nd class customers, even now this patch is more directed at games that are years older than PF and have had more updates and even more in this patch, than were ever likely to see!

Oleg posted at suhkoi that BoB FMB will have same interface (some FMB Whinnage taking place at the suhkoi too). Oleg says, FMB will have new features, triggers, but the same design or interface. Oleg is "firm" about this (meaning, we must start Whining immediately http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif).

As a minimalist, I don't mind its spartan feel at all, and the ability to use triggers would be great.
Now, if only we can convince Oleg we need flyable gliders...

Don't worry, FMB is Brutal Power, especially with the 3D viewing capability. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif That 3D Power may conflict with the ability to make a standard Windows interface (game grafix engine must run inside FMB). If that is true, the rest of this post is worthless http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif , if no, lets talk Interface.

Toolbar icons would be useful, but not absolutely needed, so this is fine. However...

The FMB dialogue or scroll boxes don't remember being Resized, and don't remember position if the User moves them.

You can't click horizontal scroll bar in the Load mission box to move the slider--only the microscopic bar ends can be clicked to move the slider.

If you accidentally click mouse as it slips outside the aircraft scroll box, the box closes and you must find the deeply buried aircraft all over again.

etc...the list is Long, and many. Just open a simple Paint/Photo program and see the smooth working interface (not the icons, the boxes that open when you click a menu item). The sad thing is with modern Windows Dev tools, programming a standard Windows interface is so *Simple* and probably easier than the way they do it.

But all this may NOT be compatible with the game engine, and the game terrain engine is running while you are in FMB 3D View. So...Oleg may have to stick with what he has. I dunno.

Well said Lexx !!!! Amen bro, go tell it on the mountain! Excellent points.

For BoB and its siblings-
They might also consider dropping the legndarily complex proprietary mapping tools and moving to a more conventional set of 3d topographical tools based on industry standard software (ArcGIS,ACAD LDD,etc etc)this would make third party development of maps a more than a pipe dream. Just a thought,..what happened to the old engineering addage that I was taught in school "OTRWP" .......Off The Rack When Possible.

You probably saw the Edited version. In the original I found I was probably contradicting myself. I usually post, then sit down to think what I am going to post. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif You remember that Other Thread, and I was thinking about that here.

That is a major pain in the a$$! It gets me everwhere I try to scroll the menus. Perhaps it's time to start putting the planes into submenus. Red or Blue side would be easiest and they are already halfway there. By country or fighter/bomber would also work. AI/Flyable maybe?

My biggest gripe with the FMB: no 'Back' or 'Undo' feature. I'm fed up with accidentally deleting or moving something then wondering where the hell it was originally http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif.

Cheers!
