View Full Version : Animals in AC

Something I've been missing for a while now that I think would make the cities feel more alive is more animals. There could be flocks of sheep on fields that would dash out of the way when they saw you riding in on your horse, some farmer milking a cow, a girl petting a cat on the sidewalk, a dog drinking out of a puddle, etc. In AC1 you sometimes walked past chickens caged up in market places. Whatever happened to those?
It shouldn't be possible to hurt the animals (to prevent Ubisoft from getting too many complaints) but I definitely think it would make the world a bit more alive. It would even be cool if your notoriety had some small effect on how the animals reacted to you. When you're fully notorious, people will sometimes whisper about you and avoid you. It'd be funny if dogs would growl at you or cats would hiss when they saw you approaching because they perceived you as a threat.

Thoughts?

That's a really good idea IMO.

Possibly in a later game...

We don't want a Disney situation on our hands. You know, all the animals coming to help the assassin in need, birds swooping down to distract the enemy as Ezio or whowever gets away, squirrels applying first aid...

Oh the horror o_O

If they were going to implement pets and livestock (besides chickens), they would have done so by now.

The only reason they haven't, was most likely because they could not find a justifiable reason to do so.

The animals would have to serve a function of some kind, a purpose. The chickens were the exception because they didn't need to do anything, just sit in their cages and cluck, where as every other animal in the game serves a purpose.

Don't get me wrong, i'd love to see wild horses, cows and sheep on fields, and people walking dogs in the streets, but unless they're used as guard dogs by the city guard, i doubt it'd ever happen.

Every time Ezio fires the hidden gun (in AC2 at least, not sure about ACB), a dog starts barking in the background. I always liked that little detail, but at the same time it seems a little strange when there's not a single dog to be found in the city.

I don't think the animals would need to serve a purpose other than decoration. Just make them a standard animation like the NPCs that just sit around having a picnic. They'd just be background decoration. I'm not saying they should be everywhere, that would be unrealistic, just scattered here and there. Inserting a few more background elements shouldn't demand too much from the game engine.

I would love to see animals in the game:chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, cows, wolves, rabbit s,owls etc.
Imagine walking at night at the countryside near a flock of sheep and there all of the sudden wolves com out of the forest and attack them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

It would cool if run or disturb an example, a cat, cat would hiss and run away toward guards, so guards come to investigate. It would make stealth harder. But just for decoration purpose would be cool too.

In Florence in AC2 there is an NPC who carries a dead deer over one shoulder and a bow and arrow over the other.

I would love it to be like RDR where you could go into the countryside and hunt deer, etcetera as just a side game to give us something extra to do.

There isn't also any child or old mans on the streets, just medium age mans.

I would mind to see crap on the ground either. And better yet, the reaction of Ezio when he grounded it xD

That wouldn't make much sense. Ezio's not some hermit who lives in the mountains off of whatever game he can scavenge. He's a city person through and through, there's food on every market corner and he's rich enough to hire people to cook for him and his entire crew. What would be the point of killing animals other than sport?

Wow, once you see that one, you start to notice a couple around there. If it comes to seeing animals just now and then, the Falcon from AC1 has always been with us! Seriously, it's like the children of the AC1 falcon at high points keeps following us around.

Edit: We can be like Fable and start to kick chickens around, except Ezio will grab birds out the sky and eat them

A definite no on the notoriety part though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Butterflies were also present in AC:B, you just had to have a very sharp eye. I found most of them in the sanctuary under the villa, one looked like it came straight from the statue O_O

I think they may have been present in AC2 already. I seem to recall seeing a few of them in the garden as the Villa's surroundings improve. There's also flies and fireflies in ACB.

I would love to see animals roaming about in their fields. I mean, it doesn't actually need to fill a gameplay purpose. I mean, there was no gameplay purpose to have the civilians have little picnics and more animations in ACB.

There is a reason to do it though that a lot of gamers love (or should love). To be able to get immersed in the game really deep.

well, I think they would only be present in the farm areas. Maybe Constantinople is devoid of farming land? Rome had a lot of it.

I agree with the OP. I would like to see more animals. I guess in ACII you do see some guys walking around with dead goats around their necks presumably to trade and I really liked in ACII how when you shot your pistol, a lot of times a dog would start barking in the back ground. I think there could be more though. The same goes for children. There are like no children in the AC world either. It's probably because of the likelyhood of some weird individuals wanting to kill children but I think Ubisoft could just prevent the player from being able to like with doctors.

My guess is Constantinople would've needed less of it. There was probably a huge fishing industry, not to mention that its port was one of the biggest trade centers in the world at the time.

Animals would be awesome. All these little things will probably be saved for AC3. They need to make a BANG and have some engine reworking for that bad boy.

Red Dead Redemption paved the way for animals on the euphoria system though.

So that probably means the next GTA will finally have K-9 units and stuff. That should be fun.

Ah, even better!

Remember when Ezio whistles his horse over? Well if you don't want to alert the enemy to your current position, say near a farm, don't call it. Just jump on Bessie.

May take a while to get places, but you'll never run out of milk...provided the assassin knows how to milk a cow of course...
