Ok so while flipping through all the vids for CloD, looking at the terrain and exelently detaild tanks and other ground units. How much would it take to clip off a feww chunks of various maps and build a tank sim off the same engine.
You now like compleat interiors and damage models for say 10 tanks to start.
Im not talking about moding but a whole build by C1.

It would be kind of cool to have a good {GOOD} tank sim again. Attacking small towns or across open steeps.
Whats your thoughts.

That reminds me, wasn't there some update by Oleg a while ago for SOW/COD where he showed a jeep that you could drive around or something like that?

That was an IL-2 mod.

Driving in a jeep is an IL2 mod.
Vroom, vroom, ratatatatat...

I don't know about moddability of CoD, but with a simple 3rd person vision on the tanks and a floating crosshair you'd already have tank sim.

Assuming there's some sort of gun performance and armour penetration for the tanks modeled already.

Oleg didn't say any gound objects would be playable on release, except for maybe some flak guns.

The reasoning behind it boils down to time and resources. He wanted to make one controllable ground object as a guide for 3rd party developers to do the rest.

It would be neat to have a game where people could drive around in tanks blowing stuff up while other players fly around in aircraft defending or blowing up the tanks, kind of like in a lot of fps games, though it's probably best to build a tank sim from the ground up instead of tacking it on to a flight sim.

It's all there in the engine - if I'm not mistaken, it's being made with modularization in mind so that developers can uncompromisingly expand it in ways one could only dream to do in Il-2.

BTW, what gun is that mounted on the Jeep? A 50mm?

Yup, if the tank isn't nearly as well modeled as the planes (or vice-versa) then it becomes a "game killer issue".
For some, if it's not up to imagination and "what I read" then it's trash.

Lmao I love your sig Romanator, I was always worried that anyone over at 1C would mix up my name with that guy.

Once he had made that comment I didnt worry about it again.

A detailed combined arms simulator could be in our future. Oleg did say that they were doing suspension modeling and the like with vehicles and it's very evident from the way that they move in the development videos we've seen of tanks moving. There certainly is enough detail there to build off of.

Still it's aircraft that I want to fly and if given the choice I'd rather they continue to develop for aircraft. If another development team was involved then maybe... If they were going to be authentic anyways.
