Gents:

I recall a thread discussing dc capabilities of the allies. at first the depth was @94 meters. Later it was ... I think increased to @190 meters... not sure when capability went beyond 200. However, according to what I read up until the entry of the XXI the sonar could not detect the boats under 114 meters???? yet last night I was down below 250 meters and dcs all around me... Dec of 42! what is the hard coding for the dcc in SHIII?

Well, I can tell you in my experience when ever I dive below 220m I may hear dc's in the water but they never get close to me. BTW I'm in a XXI early 45. I have never gotten damage from a dc lower than around 210m. Plus being that deep you are long gone from where they droped the dc from when they get to that depth .. if you are at least 5 knots. sr (silent running) of course.

Thank u for reply and info. I reread a % of "Modern Sub Warfare" and the authors contend the allied radar was not effective below 400 feet... the should lose any ability to locate you after that unless u r noisy:&lthttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif but super DE in SH3 seem to able to locate u below that level... Also, am i correct the dc were not able to go below 194 meters by war end? so I agree when get below that 220 meters ... they can not touch u... anyone know how to mod availability of XXI in SH3? I want to intro in late 43 for the fun of it:&lthttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As I recall, radar was not effective below the surface of the water, let alone 400 feet. ASDIC is a different story though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

On a similar note...

Has anyone ever been DC'd enough that the surface ship(s) run out of their seemingly never-ending supply?

Just curious.

To get the XXI early U have to finish a campage and get the XXI. Then change your last log date to 1939 and there u go a type XXI in 1939.

I modded to get the XXI in April of 43. for a "what if" campaign. Very interesting.,.. Naturally radar is for surface.. I mistakenly referenced as radar ... should have been active ship sonar... I have found other sources thtat by 43 allies had the search light type active sonar and the ,.. I think it was called Q band... like a slice of pie at about 5 degrees deep while about 65 degrees horizonatal and out to about 1200 yards ... max effective range dep on sea state, target profile etc...thanks for replies. Also,,, using mods designed by Jungman etc... on snorkel detection/size and ai-visual correction ... completely improved and what a dif game... I understand RUB 1.44 will be out soon....
