A few days ago I ran into a problem with my display. It first happened when I tried to play a game of Pf. My computer started having glitch lines that go all the way across my screen horizontal and would vary in position. After a few min of this my computer froze up. The famous ctrl+alt+del didn't work and it just stayed locked. I turned it off by holding in the power button for 5 seconds and proceeded to reboot it. Upon reboot it worked fine until my computer loaded up the msn messenger and the aol messenger when it glitched again.
I turned it off and on again but did it in safe mode so it would load without glitching. Even in safe mode it glitched a little but it didn't lock up on 640x480 like it did on 1024x768. I thought it may just be a display issue so I reloaded all my graphics drivers and Direct X 9.0c and display drivers. Restarted my computer and thought it worked...wrong.
It started working a little better but still had glitching while trying to play Il2 and other games that my computer could actually run http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif like Empire Earth..etc. The glitching after a few min of play would adventually lock my computer up and make me start back at step one.
I was wondering what I could do to fix this problem or if anyone knows how to fix it.

Please don't laugh but here are my computer specs:
E Machines
Windows 98 SE
Pentium III Processor
550 mhz
256mb ram
Nvidea Ge Force Fx 5200 Card
15 gig HD
* Don't ask me how it runs Il2... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

I would say that is an overheating video card.

First thing, check to see if the fan on the card is moving (may as well check all the other case fans while your at it).

If the fan is moving, try cleaning any dust out of it. Dust is the no.1 killer of PCs, IMHO.

If everything looks hunky dory, repost and we'll look into it further http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Okay sorry for the reopening of this old thread but I didn't want to make a new one. Well for an update my computer is still doing what it did before. I did what you said and cleaned out all the fans and even got one of them that wasn't working to start working. I removed my video card and looked for a fan but I don't see one on it, so I just cleaned that off and went on with cleaning the rest of the fans. At the time being, all fans that I see are working and I still get major glitch issues with any game I try to play. I've reinstalled every game and my drivers again just to make sure. I don't really know where to go from here. Any more suggestions? Thanks for the help.
*Also: The glitching occurs when using windows media player and any other video related process.
