If you are in for a little test regarding your steady hands, you can try a head-on shoot-out between a P-38L and a Bf-109K. It takes no more than a few minutes, you don't need Hyperlobby.

1. Click here to download the mission file
http://web.t-online.hu/rnzoli/test_your_aim.mis

2. Choose "Save as", and specify
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\Net\coop\1\test_your_aim.mis
(adjust the path to your environment as needed)

3. When download finised, start your IL-2

4. Select Multiplay -> Create New Server -> Game Type = Cooperative - Create -> test_your_aim -> Load

5. Select the plane you wish to fly, and customize the convergence and weapon loadout as necessary.

6. Press Fly.

NB. The mission is ready to start. Expect the enemy plane at your level, very near (1 km), slightly to your left. Your task is to get your aim on it and damage it on a head-on. The AI is configured to be an Ace, so you need to be the first to score hits, otherwise you stand no chance.

7. Press fly and again.. and good luck! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Result evaluation:
- win:
a) you manage to down the other aicraft
b) the other aircraft is damaged, you are intact
- loss:
c) you go down first
d) you are damaged, but the other aircraft is intact
- draw:
- both flying away from the head-on, equally healty or equally damaged.

8. After warming up, repeat the test 10 times. Record your scores and possibly record your tracks too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Mine in the P-38: is 7 wins against 3 losses.

The AI will break away if you score damaging hits. In order to do that, you need to trim your aircraft very well, so that you maintain a steady course while you are firing. Do not spare your ammo - you will not need it for a second pass.

I tried the test using the K4 all 10 times and i destroyed the p38 with the 30mm every time.

Here is a quick track of my second Run.

Sorry but this really isnt a FAIR fight IF you fly the K-4 due to the MK108. It is quite easy to shoot down the P-38 with this setup.

You should really try an LA5FN/7 or Spit IX or a P-51D/Mustang III and see how you fare.

Also the P-38 is a much larger and SLOWER target than the K-4.I tried to do this the other way around (fly the P-38 instead) and I could only damage the K-4 while I could consistently blow up or take the wings off the enemy using the K-4. Or maybe I am just so used to the 109s. Another fair plane would be to use the Bf-109 G2 or F4 vs Spit or Lavochkins. Also maybe I am not used to the 50 cals much http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

BTW my convergeance is 480 for MG and 520 for Cannons.

I wish I still had the game to try this.

I chose these 2 aircraft to represent 2 very different gunnery platforms. The advantage of the P-38 is the lack of torque, so it can be trimmed to make long distance shots easier. The cannons also pack enough punch to force the 109K break off, in which case it does not fire the 30mm guns. The 109K-4 is also somewhat handicapped by the large re-coil, so actually I fare worse (about 5:5) when trying the K-4 against the 38.

BTW, let's not forget that the test is against an AI Ace. I would never try a head-on against a human flown K-4 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Unless I smear the windshield with oil, he would keep firing until he manages to land one 30mm shell somewhere on that big bird...

Are you sure this link works? I get "Bad link" message from the site. I am interested to see - I wonder how many shells you fire, in how long bursts.
