What UK or US aircraft from the present plane set would give me the best chance against the Me 262? Opinions please.

YP-80 would be your best bet and any P-51/Mustang MkIII, but if your lucky any of 'em http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well the YP-80 is very close in performance...close enough that the two can have a pretty good fight.

The next up is the P-47D Late and P-51D-20 or Mustang Mark III. Any one of those three is generally fast enough that if they use a slight dive they can probably catch and flame a jet. This is how it was done in WWII http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sadly there are presently no UK aircraft that are really proficient in catching a jet. You COULD try with the Spitfire IX with clipped wings...full engine, full boost, and alot of dive speed may give you the necessary top speed to catch a jet. Most of the time its going to have to be a bounce...if they see you they can probably evade.

The YP80 is a dogfighter that the Me262 doesn't like meeting.
The P-47 can do rather well too.

Up high a Mustang III will give the 262 a lot of trouble...

Down low the fight is the 262's to lose, and your best bet is probably to take a Spitfire or similar so that you can get out of the way when it starts gunning for you.

Eventually the 262 will run out of patience or ammunition.

The Me262 wouldn't ever do that. Why attack a spitfire down low that you can't get when there are so many juicy B17s up high. It wasn't a dogfighter.

Yes, a bounce does work. Sweet relief when you get rid of that nasty jet bugger when you're in a little Spitfire. I got lucky in the non-clipped version. Once.

In RL we decided just to catch them on the ground and kill em there.

Thanks, the room I'm flying in on UBI.com doesn't have the YP80, so it looks like the Spit IXe clipped or the P47 or P51. I looking forward the TempestV being available.

A suprising amount of 262's were used for armed recon but they never engaged in combat unless bounced.

Chances are you'll never catch him, but if he comes within a thousand metres your hispanos will. Assuming the long shot, set your convergence to bugger all and plug away. Problem is you've got to make yourself a whipping boy first.

YP80 can easily outmanoeuvre the Me262. A much more even fight is vs the Hs126.

If you catch him by surprise while he is cruising, landing or taking-off:

Anything will work fine.

Otherwise:

YP-80.

If the 262 pilot knows what he's doing you'll never catch him in a prop fighter unless you surprised him while he was cruising at mid-speed.

P-47 is a hard oponent at high alt, in this game, it is not so much slower than the 262, and if the 262 is hit once in the the engine, it torches.
I think that the P-47 can take as many hits from the 262-guns as the 262 can take from the .50 MG:s of the P-47.
