Or should i get the ati x1600 for $30 usd more? With the setup i have now i am running at low settings and getting between 30-70 fps. How much of an improvement would i get?

Definitely the 1600, just on the strength of 12 Pixel-shaders rather than 4, plus the extra 50Mhz of oomph in the GPU.
Either will certainly improve your graphics enormously. Personally I'd be tempted to look on eBay for an AGP x850xt - which would be better than either of the above.

But whatever, you are in for a graphics treat. You will be able to use perfect settings at similar if not better framerates http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Don't know if you're in the US or not, but BestBuy has the X1600 Pro 512MB, both AGP and PCIe versions, on sale for $99. Just yesterday it was $205. It's listed in their "Black Friday" advertisement, but you can buy it on-line now. Just go to bestbuy.com and search for "x1600 pro" and both versions will show.

It may not be top-of-the-line card, but I figure it will be a step up from my Radeon 9600. Although, i have to say I've been quite content with the 9600.

They're sold out, unfortunately. You might be able to get one at your local store, but not online.
