I would like to compete...however, my credit card is already screaming.

I have to wonder...is a hotas really necessary if you have trackIR and a keyboard?

Necessary? No, but a HOTAS will definitely help improve your situational awareness, which, IMO is probably THE most overlooked aspect of successful pilots.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif All that's necessary is a PC and a joystick... all the rest is optional... but it sure makes it a lot more interesting.

I hope you atleast have a joystick? IMO, the hotas is a quick way to get the principal controls you want at your fingertips, as you are flying.

How many here have hit the G key while in a dogfight because they wanted to hit another key on the keyboard that was right next to it and lost their gear in flight because they were travelling 600km/h in a dive? I'm guilty of that and since getting a HOTAS, things like this have never happened again.

Hey Maico, no chick pics?

Of course I have a joystick...though the quality of my flying will say other wise. I haven't done the gear-down while at combat speeds, yet.
My new stick and TrackIR have cleared up alot of he evils that plague me. I don't know that my hamfistedness is curable nor my tendency to lose track of my prey by any do-dad that I might add to my system.

But I can pray.

BC, by now, I know your play room better than mine. Man, you're an exhibitionist, always ready to show your intimate... house-parts. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

That all depends on your level of immersion in the game you'd like to experience. With a HOTAS you won't need to use the keyboard if you don't want to. Nothing reminds you more of playing on a computer than playing with a keyboard.

Think how easy it would be to use your left hand for throttle, pitch trim, aileron trim, flaps, landing gear, various engine management systems instead of glancing over to look for the "F" button for flaps..... or worse 'CNTRL up arrow" for elevator trim.

If you really like simming, and see yourself doing it for some time, then I heartliy recommend a HOTAS.

Actually, A LOT has changed in the last three years. I live in a different place. These pics are in Kuwait. I now live in Qatar. I now use the living room as the play room. Pics to follow.

Here is the new rig in the new cave. Here in the desert I have to clean my filters every other day. See the dust? These are new! Snoopy overlooks my flying. I got the all metal 262 in Germany this summer.
