These are not near the quality of the other post from England on here, as the sun was never at an advantageous angle, being at my 2 o'clock at the beginning and slowly getting behind me. I also only had a 400mm zoom on my rather slow Pentax ist-D digital camera. So those are my excuses.

Anyway, I took the first ones the Friday before, sitting alongside a road at one corner of the runway. I had no Idea that some of these AC would show up, as we've never had more than three actual warbirds show up at one time. The Commemorative Air Force sent its Ga. contingent and some AC from Texas that are rather famous.

I shot these at 1/250th second. The first one is the CAF Tora Kate replica based in Atlanta, which was used in the movie. It came with two of the Tora Zekes. These first shots of thier arrival were taken in perfect lighting in the late evening at dusk.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP0848corrrectedresized.jpg

A nice B-25J showed up called Pacific Prowler. The markings are totally too early for a J model, but it was almost complete except for the turret.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP0899correctedresized.jpg

This Hughes 500D showed up, well equipped for camera work and flew alongside the planes as they made several passes. It paced the 25 all the way down on its landing. Note the photog in door.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP0820correctedresize.jpg

I got rather excited when one of my favorite warbirds showed up, since I had photographed this plane in 89 and 90 at the huge show in Harlengen Tx. It was recently rebuilt with a new early 43 paint job, and is very complete. Also based in Atlanta now.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP0867correctedresized.jpg

I was packing my stuff on my scooter (try that with an overloaded camera bag) when I heard another radial engine. I was highly surprised when I saw this magnificent machine come in.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP0914correctedresized.jpg

The color scheme here is the way it looked, and is hard to get accurate in the shots i took in the lighting of the airshow the next day. It's in a Korea scheme.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP0919correctedresized.jpg

The last time I shot this FM-2 was also in 90.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1025correctedresized.jpg

This Corsair was also from Tx. They did the photo passes early in the show while the sun was at a very bad angle. Luckily they flew again later in the day also.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1032correctedresized.jpg

The A-1 takes up alot of sky. Loud to. That thing is huge.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1075correctedresized.jpg

I got alot better shots of this Dauntless in 90 when they flew a bit steeper banks in much better late day Texas sun. This was ok though.

The lighting was much better when they taxied by me from the left. Unlike the bigger shows, it was easy to get a good position on the front without having to shoot over people. Note the 5 in. Rocket stubbs.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1107correctedresized.jpg

I think this is actually an FG-1D built by GM, but I'm not sure.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1112correctedresized.jpg

This was one of Two Avengers.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1121correctedresized.jpg

The A-1 rumbled past. I dunno why it has red stars painted on the cockpit, 'cause it sure never scored that many kills...they did get a couple of Mig-17s in Nam though. Check out the paintjob on the bombs. It also is in a single gun config in each wing.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1127correctedresized.jpg

The mountains here in NW Ga. make a good backdrop at Russell field.

The narrators at most airshows in the US are total bufoons methinks; this guy kept calling this a .....Devastator. I nearly puked. No wonder people are so ignorant of this stuff.

There's no such thing as a bad SBD picture. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Also, FG Corsairs were built by Goodyear, not GM.

Well duh, and here I just called the narrator a buffoon. Yeah, I know it's Goodyear, but I'm getting old. I still know the difference between a TBD and an SBD though.

Here's the first plane the Confederate Air Force got about 5 decades ago. Pretty good shape for a P-51 that's been flying in airshows that long.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1254correctedresized.jpg

The B-25 in nat metal is a pain to maintain in this kinda shape. I used to help do so with a small museum I belonged to a couple of decades ago that had a C-47. I never wanna touch a buffer again.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1245correctedresized.jpg

The B-25 rotating. Man these things are loud. I got to do some air to air photography back in 92 on one near hear, and you gotta wear hearing protectors.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1260correctedresized.jpg

And now for something completely different (in John Cleese's voice). This is a ......get ready for it.....jet powered porta potty. Yup, I know it's outta the x-files, but the guy that had a jet truck there put a small jet in a real porta potty, and you won't believe how fast this thing goes. There were some really bad jokes about too many tacos, and this is real popular around here (yeee haaaa). Note the ironic sign.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1192correctedresized.jpg

Another act that I've seen alot of variation on is the redneck taking flight instruction (I refuse to use the idiotic term 'flying lessons'). He gets in the Cub and goes nuts flying around thru the trees etc. They finally talk him down onto this pickup truck, referred to as an Alabama aircraft carrier. I like the version where it's a guy in a gorilla suit that steals the J-3.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1166correctedresized.jpg

I know you guys will hate this, but I promise to get back to the warbirds. My camera accidentally went off (severa times actually) while I carried it accidentally pointing toward the Hooter's stand with appropriately dressed chicks. Just wanted to show you the aggravation we have to go through at air shows around here. Note that she is doing what women do best....this would make a great caption contest.

Enforcer572005

Yeah, I almost missed it myself. Very little advertising. If not for the one sign they put up in town......anyway, here's one more just to illustrate what the great town of Rome Ga. is about to outlaw......any visible undies, and visible bra straps will get you thrown in jail.Thongs are also going to be criminalized, whether visible or not. I'm not making this up I swear....Anyway, here's an example of what not to do if you come to Rome. Show your daughters and gfs. I do this as a public service. Please note that she is having to rest her arm on her......boobage. This is especially bad and is a common subject in sermons here.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1184croppedresized.jpg

Here's one of the high tech john moving into position for take off behind the B-25.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1194correctedresized.jpg

Back to the stuff we really like and not those nasty old girls. Sinners all. Anyway, the B-25 is attacking Tokyo.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1413correctedresized.jpg

Lots of gas and stuff going boom. This will generate nasty indignant letters to the paper for weeks. And I'll make them look like fools like I always do....I love writing counter letters. Anyway, this is cool.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1399correctedresized.jpg

Next came the Midway routine, narrated by another guy that only knew a little more than the first one. He didn't mention anything about the 6 avengers there at all. The Tora Zekes were doing their thing and the Wildcat and Corsair began chasing the Zekes. A good time was had by all. Here a Zeke has apparently been clobbered by the non existant belly gunner with a .30. They must have gunners from the sim.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1484correctedresized.jpg

A good angle on the T-6/Zeke.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1441correctedresized.jpg

Another pass by the 25. I actually got to climb into the tail gunners position of the one I got to fly in yrs ago. Indescribable flying through clouds back there.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1423correctedresized.jpg

Here's a Marine checking out the USAF's contingency fighter in case the next president is named Hillary and all the F-22s are dumped in the ocean for fish hatcheries. Of course, they will only get one, so all the officers will have to take turns flying it. BTW, this thing would haul A.

THis SH-60B is the only military combat aircraft at the show that is still in service. The organizers of the show claimed the Iraq war had most of our aircraft busy. I nearly fell outta my chair when I read that. They didn't wanna spring for the hotels and rental cars they have to provide the crews. The Seahawk did a neat little demo on its way out though.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1140correctedresized.jpg

The only USAF plane there was this T-6 Texan 2....which is from Switzerland....and a neat plane. Was bigger than I thought. Some poor instructor got stuck with weekend airshow duty. They hate that.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP0950correctedresized.jpg

And a nice Stearman PT-17 with a hopped up engine. Did a great aerobatic routine, but I've seen so many of those that I photographed some other stuff.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1152correcetdresized.jpg

OK, the jet truck. You shoulda seen this thing at night. I was kinda amazed how fast this thing went...had to use a drag chute to stop.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1320correctedresized-1.jpg

This was after the show later in the evening. Note the open access panel, and that annoying little shield for the rear gunner that drives me nuts when I'm trying to shoot somebody.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1711correctedresized.jpg

The Kate replica before it left.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1706correctedresized.jpg

OK, here is what I was documenting during an aerobatic routine.....another aerobatic routine by a Hooter's girl on this parachute simulator bungy thingy. She was jumping all over the place, and, well, I thought I could provide some of the local clergy with photos they could illustrate their sermons with and help educate young chix to avoid such sinful activities. She's bouncing through about 15 meters.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1363croppedresized.jpg

Here is an excellent opportunity for a wardrobe malfunction, which I was prepared to document to keep the public informed.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b63/Enforcer572005/IMGP1357croppedresized.jpg

WHOA! Disaster is imminent! Well, I was just informed by the Ga. Taliban that I can't post this anywhere as it makes Rome look bad....so you will have to come to the K-9 kennel where My squadron hangs to see the rest when I get em posted tomorow evening. Heh heh. See ya.

That Texan 2 looks very similar to the Pilatus PC-9's that the RAAF uses for initial training.

I've always wondered how they'd perform compared to a P51 or Spitfire?

Yes, it actually specifies the habbit of young guys wearing thier pants down at the bottom of their baggy underwear. I'm not making this up....they just added the women's undie regulation and bra strap prohibition to ensnare more people and get more votes from the local Ga. Taliban.

What do you expect from a state where the State Attorney General told local lawyers that the Constitution doesn't apply to Ga. and "we can do whatever we want". I'm not making that up either. The same guy is trying to execute a guy on death rwo that new evidence has proven he is innocent of an ancient murder because.....he shoulda appealed it within the 30 day limit. Serious. I would advise all not to come to this state if you can avoid it.

I'd heard about some pretty archaic laws in some of the US states. It seems Georgia is one of these...
Don't know much about USA, but wouldn't be too keen to get caught doing anything wrong here, for sure!
Great pics, though, Enforcer!

Enforcer, this topic should serve as a shining example of what an IL2 thread should be like !

The pretty girls were actually a part of the air show, so pictures of them were in order.

There were even some airplane photos !

Thanks M8, those photo's really brightened my very foggy morning. Nothing like warbirds and birds with my morning bagel and cuppa. Thanks for the love.

As for the State of Georga... My Father was born there. Left there at age 10. Never returned except to bury his mother in 1960 and while doing that, he snuck in stayed a few hours and left the same day. He never told me why but I can only assume that he'd run afoul of some law there. We visited my Mom's folks in North Carolina regularly, but Dad never ever set foot in Georgia again.

I'm tempted to set up a network of 'safe houses' for Rome's female soon-to-be criminal element. What d'you say chaps? We could rehabilitate them, show them that life without underwear is a viable alternative to the wayward path they've chosen. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I was up in Ga. a couple years ago and my sister still lives there. I swear I'll never set foot in that state again, there's a lot of things those folks are and christian ain't one of them. Law enforcement there is about how many trumped up things can you add to a traffic ticket and how huge a fine can be levied against non-locals passing thru, it's criminal what they get away with.

Great photos Enforcer, thanks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Here in London (England not Canada!), CCTV cameras are being used to trap motorists rather than catch criminals. Each of the 32 London Boroughs employs 12 people to catch traffic offenders and only 2 to catch criminals.

More money is made from the motorist than catching robbers.

Fact!
