This is a good tribute:

but this is much better:

good to see him back at his roots.

McRae was the same age as me; I used to watch his dad in the forests in a Manta, and when I started going to see Clubman and national events Colin was just starting oout in a Nova, with his mates crewing in a beaten up transit.

My abiding memory will be at the hairpin on Oliver's Mount, Colin coming down the hill to fully sideways for 300 yards before the hairpin. Though he crashed at a lot he was nailed on to be World Champion, we knew that even then. He was just another level; in driving skills a successor to Henri Toivonen (another one taken tragically early). There was always a buzz when you knew he was due next as you stood on a misty morning in Kielder, or Hafren, or in the Yorkshire forests.

He was the Man.

It's terrible isn't it. First Richard Burns and now Colin. A generation of British champs gone.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gifGood grief what is next?

The number of aviation disasters recently is getting absurd.

A passenger jet just went down in Thailand, helicopters crashing in Iraq, Reno air race crashes, the two Mustangs that were just lost, the Hurricane that just went down, the air show crash in Poland...all just recently.

What the heck is going on?

Been down all weekend on hearing this very sad news. A true scottish hero taken far too soon, and made all the harder to accept on hearing his five year old son, his six year old friend and one of Colin's mates involved as well.

Maybe it's true what they say that "only the good die young", but it sure doesn't make it any easier to bear.

Flower of Scotland when will we see your likes again?

Rest in peace.

Hmmm. Maybe the atmosphere itself is changing? I know it sounds weird, but with all this global warming, etc affecting our world perhaps it is in some very subtle way changing how the layers of air are reacting to aircraft? It could even be something that happens regularly in earth`s history except we`ve only had aircraft for about 100 years.

Maybe we need to revise our aircraft technology?
