Hello, I have been lurking a while and have a few specific inquiries for the local experts.

* The last patch has a smoking chimney effect. How do I get this?

* Why no incendiaries in bomb loads?

* A patch or two ago, I think I noticed a Typhoon V listed in the AI planes. Was it removed or is it some deluded figment?

* In the Single Missions, the Mistel one starts by retracting its gear and settling on the ground before I can even press a key. Can I prevent this?

* What are the issues with the new clouds? They look gorgeous in those screenshots a few dev updates ago, I am looking forward to this feature. And the Tempest (one day).

Thanks in advance for the help. As a measly reward here's a screencap of a Yak-1 campaign I was flying, pictured is one of the AI Yaks after some rough handling by a Bf-109. It is flying like this in a big mushy circle. The pilot bailed out long ago and there is one rocket under the right wing, somehow it's stable. It flew until it ran out of gas!

Ok, here we go http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

1. The smoking chimney effect, along with static 'campfires' and airfield lights were added in 3.04. To add them to a mission, you need to use the FMB (Full Mission Builder). They're listed under the 'Static Objects' menu, I believe. If you need help with the FMB, this (http://www.jumpintojapan.com/index.html) link is a fantastic series of tutorials by a member of the community.

2. Hmm...If I recall correctly the Luftwaffe have several incendiary explosives. I THINK that the 'SD' designation in the bomb means incendiary, but I could be way off on that. As for the allies, the russians have no incendiaries, but they do have a really nice Napalm canister for the IL2 - it's listed as VAP250, I believe. Also the parachute bombs dropped from the A20 or B25 are incendiary explosives.

3. The Typhoon hasn't been listed for any earlier patches, but I know how you've been mixed up: it's been mentioned regularly in conjunction with the next patch/addon due out soon (previously 3.05, now 4.00). If I remember my SimHQ correctly, the model/cockpit have been finished and sent to Oleg, so barring some major problems, there's a very good chance this could be one of the next flyable planes we get. I'm not saying it's certain, just possible. Nobody knows http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

4. I have no idea why you're having this problem with the Mistel (you're running on of the Mistel missions included with the basic game, right?). Even if somehow your gear key was being pressed constantly, the landing gear shouldn't be able to retract while the plane is grounded. Maybe someone else can help here?

5. The new clouds are coming the same way as the Tempest. Although I'd say those lovely 'full overcast' are a definite rather than a maybe.

Cheers,
Junko 'Kimura' Ifurita

The russians have no incendiaries.

Napalm is a Incendiarie http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Also think the F4U (or Corsair) have Napalm http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I have placed a factory object in FMB (object 60). It just sits there! Is there certain times of day, graphics settings etc. that will make this work?

I want a B-29 full of incinderaries! And a Lancaster too...dream on.

The mistel mission is the old one from AEP I think. Funny thing is, when I got AEP, I played it a few times, then merged PF with it....wont work now. Odd.

To make things clear about incendiary weapons in flyable aircraft;

VAP-250's and the AJ-2 for IL-2's.

154gal Napalmbombs for the F4U's

The "Parafrags" carried by the A-20 and the B-25 are not incendiary weapons. They're 23lb ******ed fragmentation bombs.

The following is quoted from the Aircraft Ordnance descriptions in Hardball's IL-2FB Aircraft Viewer:
"Type 3 Mk.27 Bomb-Rockets:
Type: Air-launched unguided anti-aircraft rockets with phosphorus incendiary warhead".
It's used by late versions of the A6M.

The german SD500 is listed as a fragmentation bomb.

Gah, I knew I had the german designations wrong http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif And I learnes somethin' new about the para-bombs.

Cap'n Cotton: he did ask if there were incendiary explosives in bomb loads http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Dropping a bucketload of fire isn't exactly an incendiary (in the way that the firebombs dropped on Dresden were incendiaries). It's more like loogie-ing of the Empire State building, only your loogie sets anything it touches on searing, sticky fire.

Goddard-**** Napalm was a nasty weapon. But then I guess every weapon is.

Junkoifurita,
Would not an incendiary be something to set the buildings on fire and some used phorius and some used liquiefided petrolum gas in the bombs and then there was napalm. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

There job is to start fires and cause painc and to slow down as many troops as can be hit with the stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

My point Napalm is a Incendiary. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Slightly off topic, but I didn`t realise until a couple of weeks ago there were cluster bombs in game. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/353.gif
