Good news for all Pacific Fighters pilots who are running the game as a stand alone and wish to play online. Warbirds of Prey has set up a server so that you may fly Pacific Fighters online. You do not need to have IL2 AEP but you will need to have the 3.03 patch. If you do not wish to go though HL you can join the server via IP . The Ip for the server is 69.9.37.146:21005. There is no charge to fly on this server. We are doing this to help promote flying Pacific Fighters online and help those of you who only have Pacific Fighters get into the online fight. The server is called "Stand_Alone_PF". The server is located in the "Forgotten Battles" room . You will need to rename your PF.exe to il2fb.exe in order to join the server through HL. I installed the game into my Ubi Soft folder instead of the default and also had to rename my Pacific Fighters Folder to Il2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles in order for HL to see my game too. I dont know if this is true for everyone else however. The server has the ping kick set to 350. The Icon settings on the server are friendly type 1k with friendly name 2k, and Foe type Icons are set to type 1k only. The aircraft featured on the server are the FM2 Wildcat,F6F-5 Hellcat, A6M5-5b zeros, the val and the dauntless. We will be adding missions featuring the Corsair, Ki84, and the old favorites like the P-38s shortly. If you have any suggestions you can can direct them www.warbirdsofprey.org (http://www.warbirdsofprey.org). If not I will check in on this thread. Salute to all and Enjoy the server.

I won't be playing on this server, since the Pacific is not a particular area of interest for me, however I think "thank you" is an appropriate response to Osiris' post.

We are going to add more aircraft to the server. For right now we chose the current set because the matchups are pretty balanced with the current flight models and they are somewhat historic but not totally. It takes allot of time to build a mission and there is more to it than just throwing in allot of aircrft. We have missions that are being converted to work on a PF stand alone server. The reason we have to convert them is because we built the missions using the full mission builder from the merged game and that mission builder has a larger flock of birds to choose from. A good example of this is we often use the he111 to sub for the betty because the betty is not flyable. We also wanted to avoid the air quake mentality that exists on a few servers. This is caused when everyone wants to fly the aircraft with the most speed, firepower, and can turn on a dime and give back 9 cents change in order to get as many kills as they can in 15 minutes. I admit that it can be fun sometimes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but it gets old after a while. You will see on the server that you will not win the mission by only trying to shoot everything out of the sky but you will have to accomplish objectives. Anyway enjoy the server and thats why the aircraft selection is the way it is right now. I hope this answers your question S~

Oh fair play, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining; I have no idea how missions are made, mostly I just use the campaign mode or the quick fight maker.

I see the two missions up at the moment are out of destroy a Jap KGV which is beached, or sink 3 of the enemies ships before they do in yours. As ive had a lazy day I have been in and out of your server constantly, problem is nobody else sems to have found it!
The one other guy who did turn up only stayed breifly, moaned about F6 being not available and no external views and left. (I only got tme to shoot him down once, which I have boasted about in another thread, but they, it was my first online victory.)

Because you guys are basically new to the series, I will enable external views. However keep in mind that some will use it as a tool to locate you anywhere on the map.

So, with the new aircraft your putting in, are you going to give them new missions?

I only ask, because on the current mission maps the japs dont have any land airfields in their territory.

Dont add external views on my account, I can crash on landing equally well with cokpit view. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'll have to stop by there tonight. I usually fly EST weeknights and weekends, I'll look for ya, Yimmy. Thanks for this Osiris. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I've only recently installed PF (been playing it a couple of weeks now) and as I still love AEP V2.04 and to keep things simple at first, I decided to go with the stand-alone first and check out all of the new features, while still flying my favorite AEP V2.04 servers.

I expect to go merged soon, but most likely will have three installs, AEP V2.04, PF and PF merged, so as not to limit my fun. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's a great effort for our new virtual pilots mate!

Just curious about your icon settings - "The Icon settings on the server are friendly type 1k with friendly name 2k, and Foe type Icons are set to type 1k only."

Perhaps this serves a specific purpose, but if folks know that the plane 2 kilometres away is a friendly, why not know the type until 1 kilometre? Guess I think of it in reverse, one perhaps should know the type of plane 2 kilometres and who it is by 1 kilometre. Just wondering more then anything mate.

I suspect as always this server will perform very well for those who participate.

And, finally, I personally find less planes is better, especially with a no-icon situation.

Regards,
TactS!

I checked it out last night. There were only four of us but I had a blast. I really enjoy the objective based missions on DF servers. It gives us bomber pilots something to do. I think it will fill up as more people discover it.

Speaking of which, I just checked Hyper Lobby and this server is waaaaay down at the bottom. Is there a way to move it up the ladder?

Well, I can't bump it in HL but I can bump it here.

BUMP!

S! When I got PF I thought I was getting a new "stand alone" flight sim. Alas that is not the case. For me to play online I gotta rename this , install that, move this, have the 3.03 patch (which I won't install, I'm staying at 3.01 until this program is finally "finished") I enjoy PF but dammit when I go to Best Buy (or others) and pay good money for a boxed flight sim I expect to get a full ready version.

One quick question, since I have AEP V2.04 and PF stand-alone installed only, won't I confuse things by renaming PF.exe to il2fb.exe, which is the same .exe as AEP?!?

Also, I would probably have to name it back to fly on UBI, as now UBI always launches the correct game for me, depending on the server I'm joining.

How will it know which game to launch? Or am I overcomplicating things? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Concerning the server, can external views please be turned off?

I dont mind the external view of F8, nor do I mind F2; but this ctrl and F2 thing I heard about where you can skip the view to the enemy aircraft really has to go... it makes it far too dificult to sneak up on anyone when both sides know exactly where the enemy are and what they/you are doing!

S~ Guys. I'm glad your having a good time on the server. Its taking a little longer than expected to build more missions for the server but we are getting there. The plan is to add two more missions to the server before the weekend. I was on with a couple of you yesterday and the missions that are on the server now kept us pretty busy. The destroyers alone were beating up my b-25 pretty bad. They did a good job of protecting that town. I noticed that most pilots were joining through IP instead of HL. Keep enjoying the server and spread the word to the PF stand alone guys. Again the IP is 69.9.37.146:21005. Also there is a forum set up for the server so tell your buddies.Just visit www.warbirdsofprey.org (http://www.warbirdsofprey.org) All you have to do is register to post and you will be all set. It would seem that the Ubi servers should be able to accomodate you so you don't have to rename or change anything. If they do not have a PF Stand Alone server, then they should. It isn't this m8's responsibility to ensure the new pilots have a place to fly. Yet he has and he should be commended for the effort. So, if Ubi doesn't have a server for a flight sim they've got their name on, then I guess a little renaming and moving is in order, in order to fly online at this m8's server.

I dont think moving the server to UBI will help it at all. I've noticed the same thing regarding the server. Pacific Fighters is just not attracting to many pilots at the moment. Most individuals are opting for the full install in order to get more maps, features, and aircraft. Pacific fighters works better as an Add-on instead of it being a standalone. There is just not much to work with online regarding Pacific Fighters. Couple this with the fact that HL is just ten times better than UBI when playing the series online. Trust me ... Do yourself a favor and do the full merged install. You will not be dissapionted . There are pleanty of servers on HL that are running PTO based maps but off of the merged install. Plus you will have the opportunity to fly some excellent Russian and German aircraft online. I know I can definately recomend Greatergreen which is the best and smoothest server on HL with a consistant crowd flying every night. The guys running the server are excellent and they will bend over backwards to get ya going. This might sound strange comming from a Admin from another server but I have no ego to stroke. Give these guys a try. Warbirds of Prey is in the proccess of adding missions, re-organising , and looking at other ways we can help out the community. Salute to all.

Just a suggestion.

Since it appears that the standalone server is not near capacity why do you not temporarily lower the max number of players to lets say 17.That way your server will appear on the list on the left.I know people can scroll down and see all the servers but many do not.(especially new pilots to HL)

So by having it seen more of the time it will become better know and more popular.Once it starts filling up you can raise the maximum players back up to 40.
