the reason the hidden blade in ac1 required the sacrifice of the ring finger was becuase the blade would have chopped it off any way. put in ac1 take out your hidden blade and check for yourself

That is true, but also, its to make sure that they are ready to truly enter the creed, and if im not mistaken, its a sign that they cant be married (they chop off their ring finger).

PS: how to you spell truly? my vocabulary is good but i can never get that word right.

Its my impression that the hidden blade could easily have been built without need of fingercutting, its just that the Assassins only wanted to give such a dangerous and rare weapon to their most dedicated.
