Hi all,

I'm a member of a few other military/history forums.

But I would like to say that this forum has provided me with not only excellent historical information but also insights into the IL2 sim.

I'm also impressed with the standard of most http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif posters here.

Its a lively forum. I was offered the chance to be be a mod but the small money and lack of body armour caused me to turn it down http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Keep posting guys..

Best Regards,
MB_Avro.

BTW I agree. what is really helpful and neat is when forum members bring their own historical information they have around the house to the forum. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

In between the good and bad bits it`s actually a very good forum and the first that i`ve ever been a member of. I`ve been to other forums since and they`ve often turned out to be a very bad taste compared. While people here can be very silly, there`s generally a mature tone that keeps things in check for the most part, while on other forums, silliness just ensues.

Moderaters here are also some of the best i`ve seen (ok, Mods don`t get too big-headed).

But I`ve come across Mods in other forums who have to follow draconially tough rules, like `don`t be an adult, be a small child like everyone else` or they get a personal disliking to you and abuse their moderation priveleges. For eg i was on a certain forum, in one thread explaining the basics of reality (without malice or gratuitousness) and one Mod censored me, then it, she, him followed me everywhere after that anonymously deleting my posts or sentences. I couldn`t believe it and when I tried to complain there was ignored or censored again.

I know forums aren`t a democracy, but that was just abusement of power.

There`s even a forum that won`t allow me to stick theme-representative avatars of the game in question up, insisting on their own, or forum members who they like to make them.

Some Mods in other forums are absolutely terrible, probabaly kids, maybe.

So all in all, this forum isn`t bad at all, pretty fair, i say, and it influenced me in many ways in ways of WWII aircraft and how Humans are in a microcosm.

About the only other forum that's ever come close to this one for me was the old Battlefront.com forum for Combat Mission back when it was a public beta. Talk about fun-filled arguments! Man, some of those guys would quibble about the validity of every armor penetration test done for the last 60 years.

I will say this,I have learned a hec of a lot about WWII history here. Many things about it I would not have picked up anywhere else.
Another thing is all the great pics of aircraft, uniforms, battlefields, tanks, etc.

You know, I've had a fair share of heated debates, flat out arguements and slanging matches.

Yet I've seen generousity of knowledge, time and even material (my TiR was donated to me by a squad mate... what a gent!) in this community, and this forum as a crossroads for it reflects this.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I've had laughs, frustrations and education here that is unique and I'll remember some of you guys to the grave!

If I bumped into ANY of you chaps in the pub you'd get a pint from me... and yes that includes you too Brain32 and Kurfy! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

We'll have to come up with some sort of secret Il2 flyers handshake so i know who you are. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

That's my experience too. There are some very knowledgeable people around that doesn't hesitate to share findings of a class that would otherwise be very inaccessible to the layman, be it on details of aeroplanes, getting the most out of the sim or general computer skills.

Totally agree!

This forum is still a great help to me. It's informative, friendly and funny.
Sometimes very sad too, but hey, that's life.
Besides that, the english, although not my native language, is also very good of almost all the members.

And related to IL2 it has brought me lots of good thinks for gameplay!

Sure has been good to me....this was the first internet forum I joined, and I think I made a good choice. From the early days of figuring out the basics, many FMB questions, all the great skins and campaigns, it's been a real blast. Admittedly, things have been deteriorating of late, and I blame that largely on 'the people whose forum this is....you should know who I mean.
Recently, it's all been a bit too much like a headless chicken running around here.
I'll take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped me out over the past 3 years plus, and to wish them all the best for the future. Geez, beginning to sound like a farewell note, but it's not, I'll still be around for awhile to come, if all goes well.
Great benefit, indeed,thanks all!

Also, online il2 has been of benefit to me.

I have been to Germany to meet with Squad mates. Today, four guys from Germany visited me here in London. Back in 2001, (The old forum software!) it was pretty educational. But for the past two or three years, I try to avoid the more heated debates. I try to be helpfull to new people and occasionally make a post of two for fun. I hope the Sow:bob forum becomes educational again.

If ever i need to know something you can guarantee that somewhere along the line it has been covered before and the search facility is such a handy tool. This forum has been a huge factor for me. I have learned about HTML (I am no guru by any stretch but it all started trying to edit my sig in the old days.. if they had stayed with it I would probably be a lot better at it.. , Photoshop (skinning.. now I am an amateur graphic artist..) , web building in general (for the squad sites...), tons of perspectives from all over the world that I frankly never would have been exposed to simply because I wouldn't have had contact with the folks who live there.., aviation, history, aeronautical engineering, my first airshow was one that I found out about here... I had always wanted to go to one.. but I didn't know anyone who was into that.. and there was no community of folks that I knew who were interested in it until I came here.. and much more... but for me it keeps on going backl to the sim... because that is what brought us all here....

Had intellectual discussions. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Had ridiculous discussions. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Been educated. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Been right. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Been wrong. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
