Just curious as to the post count and pages expended, these seem to be the most talked about issues.

We need another 50 ... 50 page threads first http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I heard the TD change the .50 cals in the next patch.

The rounds will have to fly for at least two seconds before they can knock out a Tiger http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif.

That's because the muzzle velocity of 50s is so high that if you're too close the intervening molecules don't even have time to realise they've been hit and react accordingly. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif And killed Tiger tank.

"Me-262 Wing Sweep" and "Fw190 Low-Speed Turnfighter: Proofs" have been easily the longest threads of the last five years....

Whinengeschoss was the champ of the old days.

The "supersonic" Me-262 also generated quite a few posts, and several bans if I remember correctly.

It used to be "Trim on a Slider" .

Then it was "P51 won the war" .

Followed shortly thereafter by the fw190 "bar" threads.

You mean the p-51 didn't win the war???

But seriously, is this all there is to talk about?

Just for once I'd like to have a 50 page thread about the P.11c. Or the Yak-1. Not the Yak-1B. Just the Yak-1. Actually I think there was a thread about the Yak-7... I forget what the issue was.

As an armour enthusiast, I remember seemingly endless threads on the .50 vs Tiger tanks issue and some members becoming very indignant and hot under the collar. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Another seemingly 'endless' one I remember on these forums, a few years back, was the good old 'Wonder Woman view vs full real' debate. That one got a few folks quite wound up too, IIRC. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Well it is a kind of pub in the cockpit and if the beer is not cold enough or there is no foam topping the people got a little grumpy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Seriously, what was the thing with 190?

TheGrunch

There used to be a bar in the cockpit of the 190 that obscured a really tiny part of the bottom of the gunsight and it was argued that refraction in the cockpit glass would remove more of the obstruction of the bar in real life. Although you could argue that for practically any piece of cockpit framing in the game to be honest. Razorback '47 for example.

The FW 190 bar debate is the all-time champ on the basis of seniority. It started during the days of the original Il-2 Sturmovik game, and it was due to Oleg's insistance upon photorealistic views. The pilot's viewpoint was one-eyed and limited to the two positions: sitting back and eye up on the gunsight.

This was before TIR was really practical and 6DOF was not even a gleam in its' creators' eyes. While technically accurate, the lack of stereoscopic vision meant that canopy frames and joysticks in front of the instrument panels were going to obscure a lot more ofyour vision than they would if you were actually sitting in the cockpit.

For those of us who had read the pilots' accounts of the wondrous visibility from the cockpit of the 190, the huge front windshield frames and the front bottom frame (bar) didn't seem right. If anything, the forward view of the 190 was badly limited, particularly compared to the 109.

It did not sit well with LW enthusiasts, and some of them were --shall we say, less than civil. Several seized upon the fact that the bottom part of the gunsight was obstructed in-game that would not be obstructed in real life, and things got ugly when Oleg defended his position.

Oleg's position hardened, and frankly, I am surprised that he permitted the bar to be reduced in the latest patch, even almost 10 years after the release of the original demo.

cheers

Basically the 190 front canopy frame was modeled to the exact dimensions of the 190 cockpit without the armor glass fitted. Oleg insisted the model should be correct as per the original dimensions of the plane.

Unfortunately without the heavy thick armor glass windscreen fitted the bottom windshield frame actually obscures the pilots view making deflection shots guess work.

In the real aircraft, once armor glass is fitted refraction means this obstruction disappears.

This issue was fixed in the most recent patch.
