I'm about halfway through "Red Star against the Swastika: The Story of a Soviet Pilot over the Eastern Front" by Vasily Emelianenko and highly recommend it. Emelianenko was an IL-2 pilot (how many books by IL-2 pilots are available?) and his account confirms many of the features/details of this sim. He also dispels some myths from the literature. Lots of good background for mission builders regarding formations, airfield descriptions, etc. Check it out.

Note to Oleg: Emelianenko mentions the exhaust flames virtually blinding the pilots at night. Can we have visible exhaust flames?

Mine came from Amazon, but other booksellers should have it. I believe the publisher is Greenhill Books, UK.

Does it have many/any pix, or is it all text?

Has a section of b&w photos. Mostly of personnel, some a/c, and a couple of aerials showing an attack in progress (some of these I had seen in other places). The book is mostly text, well written, and pretty well translated (some errors). Since picking up this sim a couple of years ago, I've read quite a few (20+) WW II pilot/crew memoirs, and this is shaping up to be one of the better ones. "First Light", "The Wrong Stuff", and "The Big Show" are classics and very, very good, IMHO.
