Here you can see the uniforms in an java animation.

You can choose the uniform by clicking on the pics on the right side. Use the slider to scroll up and down. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

About the iron cross :

Sadly no.

The iron cross and Knights Cross did not survived 1945.

The Bundeswehr was build up mostly by Knights Cross holders but it is the only NATO member army that has no combat award medals at all.

Also see these wikipedia articles :

P.s: The manpower of 15.258.931 men even exceeds the wehrmacht and SS together.......... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif but dont tell anyone...... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

thanks for your reply celeon.

im amazed re the medal situation, tho if i think positively at least its not replaced my anything else yet, so perhaps it awaits another time and a contemporary design.

actually i dont see a problem, even commercially the swastika gets swapped for an iron cross in many forms. even the bundeswehr symbol is one too!

i think its a matter of time.

We're not worried about those 15 million+, Celeon. That is the number of men Germany has who are of military service age, not how many you have actually mobilized. If you put 15 million men into uniform, I think the French, British and other Euros would be nervous. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

Here are some Bundeswehr medals that have some similarities with the iron cross but are no combat awards :

Medals of Honor of the defence minister
(No combat awards)

Of course. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Thats the difference between peace and wartime strength of conscript armys http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

And also the reason why countrys with private armys get problems in wartime and go back to conscripting. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

About those combat awards ...why have combat awards without having combat ? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Amazingly, Canada, with a small population of about 12 million in WW2, resisted conscription until the replacement crisis of 1944 [after D-Day and the heavy fighting in Italy.] The major domestic resistance was due to the French portion, who did not wish to fight in an "English" war. That being said, there were still a goodly number of French volunteers, not as high percentage-wise as English Canada, but not insignificant either. There was a major scandal over what became known as the "Zombies." These were soldiers conscripted on the terms that they would only serve in Canada, as guard or garrison troops. When they got their orders to ship overseas there was holy hell raised.

We are a strange country. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I didn't know that. Obviously the Iron Cross is not considered offensive like the Swastika as the symbol is used today on German tanks and military aircraft etc.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">from Wikipedia:

So the Iron Cross could be awarded to German military personnel if Germany was involved in another war?

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">from Wikipedia:

I've often wondered why biker gangs use the Iron Cross as a symbol and sometimes wear helmets that resemble Wehrmacht helmets (like the guy from the Discovery Channel TV series 'American Chopper'). Where does this tradition come from?

Yup, 12 million, of whom about 1.1 million served, one of the highest mobilization rates of the WW2 combatants. Our present population is in the 30 million+ range.

I was just wondering... Canada is such a huge country. 30 million is not pretty much.

I thought it would be 90 or 100 millions in a huge country like Canada.

Too much mountains and not enough space for more large cities heh ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yeah, we are a country wide-open for the picking if someone gets serious enough about invading us, and don't mind starting a war with the U.S. at the same time. A lot of our space is wilderness northern areas that are very sparsely inhabited. Most of the population is in a central corridor around the Great Lakes, abutting the U.S. and also concentrated on the west coast and the St. Lawrence Seaway. We have a puny military, but since Uncle Sam likes a quiet neighbour to the north, anybody who thinks about taking over Canada will have to fight the U.S. This is the reason why we have such a puny military; we are too cheap to pay for it and know that the U.S. will come to our aid if we are attacked.

ahh, no worries...we'd give it all back eventually! 'cept for the British Columbia (ski resorts and mountain bike), the maritimes (fresh seafood) and Montreal (babes! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif).

Actually, CEL you'd be surprised how friendly we are with our neighbors, we even have professional teams that play on both sides of the border like Hockey and Baseball (I know "Baseball, what's that???"). Sometimes there are minor battles during the Hockey games.

In the winter, you see tons of Canadian tourist up and down our east coast and in the summer, tons of Americans hit the Maritimes and BC for camping and shopping (love the exchange rate and big TAX rebate we get).

We come over visit with each other, watch a game of hockey, borrow tools, go fishing, and complain about the mexicans and french canadians. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Yeah Canada is a nice place to live, I especially like Montreal.... I've lived here all my life, (great city, very nice women) but the political situation does get tedious at times! (every few years Quebec tries to separate from the rest of Canada) come to think of it! we're due for another referrendum soon. I think it would be sad if Quebec separated from Canada, it would not only make this country weaker , but this provence would be no better off "in my opinion"...in fact, it might even become worse here! I sort of understand why the french Canadians "Quebecois" as the like to be called! want to separate, I just don't agree with it... and I'm not the only one! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

It has something to do with tanks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif, police rulership http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif, occupation, court martial tribunals without lawyers http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif ............ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

*Celeon recieves a wave of cold water in his face and the small swastikas in his eyes dissappear....*

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif Ouch... i feel better now.....

We have our own French Americans down here also...they are called Cajuns! Remember???, the British kicked them out of Canada and they settled in then French Lousiana after the French and Indian War.

Neither French or English speaking persons can understand them today???? They speak a dialect that only they understand.

I like Celeon's idea! lol! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif...but unfortunately I don't think that would work here.... but then again mabey it would!? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gifand as far as language is concerned.. it's totally french here, Quebec is not as bilingual as the other provences, for ex: commercial signs are only in french here, even in most major businesses! the exterior signs can only be in french (no english allowed) and most of the interior also, a Quebec law to preserve the french language because they consider Quebec a distinct society!. It's a long story!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I suppose so. The funny thing about the French is that they seem to hate the Germans less than they hate the English. We're fed up with their perfidious ways. Next time you want to go into France, we won't get in your way. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
