Having spent a bit of time lurking on the Battlefield forum (planetbattlefield) because I am having a secret affair with the game- dont tell Sturmo (I still love it too)

i have to say guys- thanks all contributors for making this forum such an interesting and knowledgable place, that is a pleasure to lurk in.

by comparison- i couldnt spend more than about 10 minutes on various bf forums without feeling my IQ consciously drop, staggering bad banter!

anyhoo, just thought id report from the dark side- ive never heard such juvenile pointless chat.....

then again http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nah, he's right. This forum is populated by the many spawns of Einstein compared to some.

Oddly enough, the only other forum I know of where you have 'adult' conversations are those of Grand Theft Auto....presumably because only players over 18 frequent them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Are you absolutely, positively sure you are at the right place?

This forum is more mature than a Quake forum, but less mature than a pure WWII history forum. There is a combination of video game fanboys, vintage aircraft enthusiasts, and WWII history buffs on this board. See if you can identify who is who http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I find space *strategy* game boards have the most mature communities...um...to my limited perception anyways...as I only play 1 or 2 flight sims and 1 space strat game -- original Master of Orion -- while waiting for Horizon to come out...

Horizon, with talkative Devs http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ~~> http://www.l3o.com/

It may have something to do with space strat games not subject to the "Hartmann Effect" where gamers think they are Erich Hartmann and even think they know something about World War 2 air warfare.

Actually I have been known to hang around on a few music software forums.

as you can imagine they have great craic:

PUNTER: How do I use multi-band compression without 3.0?

OTHER PUNTER: Well actually if you use a spider audio splitter and route seperate outputs to vocoders set to equalizer mode, u can isolate specific frequency ranges and then route each seperately to its own compressor. then recombine the signals and you have a multi-band compressor.

PUNTER: Thanks

ME: OMFG!!! NOOB!!!!!

Aye..but they're still a cut above most of the plebs you get. Fortunately, most chavs have consoles and no internet access so that automatically cuts out most of the twerps.

Talking of which, playing Halo 2 etc on Microsoft Live trial was an eye opener. Those gusset boys make flying on an Il-2 server like taking tea and scones on the lawn whilst making polite conversation with the vicar.

The trade off is they don't whine about daft things like aileron tabs or the dispersion of .50 cal machine guns for 26 pages!!!

I agree, theres some chaff but here you tend to learn allot of stuff, at school I never learnt about the USSR's contribution to the war, only its contribution to the cold war, its not over looked but its always seen as the UK and US that history focused on, probably cause when I was in school it was the height of the cold war but here I've learnt allot about the eastern front and dispelled some of the western born myths about Soviet men and machines.

As for Planetbattlefield...I think its a requirement that your 1)12 and 2)Know leet speak before your allowed to register. I went there once and the experiance is enough to stop me ever going back.
