as nice a flyable A5M would be............ IF any more new 3D work would be done, i would vote for a flyable P-36/Hawk 75 !

sorry, but the Curtiss is much more usefull with the given maps in a historical content !
you could even fight Oscars with the Mohawks over the Burma map http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
or think of
Hawaii
France
Finnland

but anyhow, there are still so much AI planes that would be very interesting to have as flyable - hard to choose http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

So, both. And, throw in an I-16 Type 10 for China, Winter War, and Barbarossa.

Deserving of inclusion because it was probably the most successful in combat pre-WWII monoplane combatant, and the most beautiful.

I am curious as to how the A5M would have compared to the P-26 Peashooter.

THAT, I'd like to see!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Mmmm, Claude was a more advanced design than Peashooter. The P-26 was only semi-cantilever, with wings still externally rigged, its landing speed was a tad too high, and performance was generally inferior to A5M.

Hawk 75/P-36 would be so much more useful. Not even comparable. Hawks were flown by: the US, RAF, French, Chinese, Finland, Dutch, Norway, Siam.

So much more useful than the a5m.

leitmotiv
01-14-2007, 04:20 PM
Er, Hawk was extensively used in combat by France; on one morning, 7 Dec, by the U.S.; game version never by China (they bought some of the fixed undercarriage version of the Hawk 75); yes, a handful by Finland; a handful by the Dutch; the Norwegian Hawks were not ready when Norway was invaded; they were never used in combat by Siam (and, anyway, the Siamese version had the fixed u.c.); and a handful by the RAF. So, the biggest argument for a Hawk 75 is to cater to the French, but they are, within a year, going to be able to build models to their hearts content for their well-planned Battle of France project for BOB.

I would like to see both, but here we are doing an advert for the A5M. It really boils down to the most successful French-flown fighter of the less than two-month Battle of France vs. the best Japanese fighter of the Sino-Japanese War 1937-41 period. I vote for the guy with the most time in combat.

and i have voted for the plane we have the most maps for in game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

anyway, to 99,9% , we will not see a flyable A5M or Hawk 75 in this sim ............

I'll take any new pre 1942 aircraft content.

Been flying jets and UFOs online with the other BlitzPigs for a while now, and I will have to say that the late war/fantasy stuff has run it's course. Boring.

More early war please.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

4.08 will probably contain several early war types: Avia B-534, Curtiss-Wright CW-21B, Fokker D.XXI and Brewster F2A-3. Flyable A5M4? Hawk 75A-3 and 75A-4 are more important; as already pointed out, they saw widespread use with several air forces in WW2 in several theatres. By 1941, the A5M4 was being phased out of first-line service and saw little action in WW2.
IF any AI plane shoud gain flyable status, it should be the Hawk 75 or a torpedo bomber. Realistically, however, we will see only the four planes mentioned above in the final patch, unless RRG or another third-party company releases an add-on with new material.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

As I noted earlier, the Hawk 75 never enjoyed widespread use. It served in some numbers with the French and was the most successful French fighter of the two month Battle of France (a few later tussled with the USN in Nov 1942). A mere handful served with the Finns (without distinction), a mere handful served with the RAF in a backwater, and some with the Dutch in the Pacific. Oh yes, a few fought with the AAF on the morning of 7 Dec 1941. Unless the meaning of the word "widespread" is to be diluted, it can't be used in this context!

The redoubtable A5M was likely the best fighter of the 1937-1941-era China war until the appearance of the A6M in 1940.

All this is moot, of course, because, with the appearance of BOB, we will likely be deluged with aircraft like the fortunate FS9/X people.

I'd love to see a flyable p-35/Re 2000/Heja (Hungarian).

I really dig the look of Seversky's little fighter design http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I read that the Hungarian version (Heja 2000) performed well on the eastern front.

I like all the suggestions so far, especially the D.XXI -- just thought I'd pop the P-35 in as well http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The FAF squadron equipped with Hawk 75s was the second highest scoring unit in the FAF.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Apologies---I saw some statistics a year or so ago which indicated the Finnish Hawk 75s claimed only about ten!

8 gun Hurricane(Mk1) surely the one of the most obvious 'ommissions'!?
Then again at 300+ we've a lot to be thankful for....

But we DO have that one! What version of the game are you playing? For me its been there for ages, its not in the list where the MKII Hurricanes are, but further down on the list at the axis aircraft.
Thats because it got introduced in the game when finland was, and thus is an axis aircraft.
I hope you have 46 or at least AEP, i think it got in the game back then.
