Found these pics of some damaged P-47s. Thought I'd share..........

"Pilots joked that P-47s ran best when most of the oil stayed inside the engine. Ltn Edwin King of the 350th Fighter Group came home to Pisa, Italy, the hard way and found that a jug can go for at least a short time, with hardly any oil at all. An oil line was hit during a strafing mission near Brizsua on the planes 110th combat mission. King most probably attempted his hair-raising, no-forward-visability landing by landing in formation with a wingman" National Archives/Army Air Forces

"...freakish hit through the propellor blade of a P-47D. If it had been damaged a fraction of an inch in either direction, the blade would have no doubt come apart....Edwin Wright was the 19 year old pilot" National Achives/Army Air Force

So oil and prop damage are under-modelled in game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I never would have thought the prop blades were hollow, but I guess they'd have to be otherwise weight would be a major problem....

When will all this western propaganda stop? Sheez Dub, everyone knows (well,Oleg does and thats all that counts) that P-47's only took 1 magic hit anywhere on the engine cowling and it was game over. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Those pictures are a prefect example of why I say WWII was the only true war the U.S. ever participated in. You are probably thinking...

WTF are you going on about this time Luckyboy?

Ok, let me explain. See, way back in WWII there was this chickydoo named Rosie. She lived in Los Angeles. Her man was in the Navy on a new Destroyer. She had a deal with another chickydoo up the coast building ships. The deal went like, you put the love of life into every rivet on that ship and I will do the same for your man who's life will depend on this plane.

Think this sort of a social contract is too far fetched? You can talk about the designs of men all you like. We've had that before and since and the result was projects like Sgt. York and an unlimited list of military failures to one extent or the next. Brand new F-18's creak and moan. Yet the old P-51 tail modified D model we owned that had enough hours on it to go to Mars and back was solid and silent without even a vibration or rattle. The F-18 was made of titanium and assembled by computer controlled machinery. The P-51-D was put together by overworked, undertrained, underpaid women one rivet at a time by hand. I want everyone to think about this. All our other efforts were just messing around killing babies for little or no use before or since.

If war is the remedy my enemy has chosen, I shall see to it that he gets his fill of the prescription in full. Anything less is killing for nothing!

No pictures of them, but my father told me of several instances of damaged P-47's that he had to repair.
The best he had was a P-47 that took a hit in the engine cowling and it lost 3 of it's cylinder heads.
The plane flew back to base with the 3 pistons still pumping in the cylinders with the tops of the pistons fully exposed to view!!

Well after 4 years of Ameri-bashing around these boards BS it's kinda hard to tell.

Now if i had seen the mans (or Womans) face or heard thier voice over the com then maybe i would have known it was a joke. then again maybe it's not. No smiley...go figure.
