http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif Splendid! Thanks for posting. I did have this footage but it got lost amongst the stuff I transferred over from an old rig.

There may be some people left who haven't seen my little effort with FS2004:

One of those pilots is so keen he's got a limp. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

There's a bit of Beaufighter footage there, 10 gun Terror, with a Beau that made it back with 3 foot of it's starboard wing missing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

The footage I bought for 25 (Hi-Res) as you know it was a bit disjointed so I tidied it up and what you see is as far as I got... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Very nice. I am not sure how anxious Oleg is to getting the Whirly in there but it would be surely nice to see http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ...You know, for BoB

Set to one of the all time great songs too!

Nice one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That song makes me choke whenever I hear it.

We live in hope. All we know is Oleg 'always liked the way this bird was looking.' as he posted in a Whirly-Whiner thread once.

I could start pestering the BoBII guys but they're busy enough, I think. The CWDT Whirly from the video is CFS2 compatable, but we've all moved on from there haven't we?

I agree with Xiolablu3 about the song too.

Keep the faith. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

"There was no question that the Whirlwind was an aircraft ahead of it's time...

Compared to the Mk I Spit or the Mk I Hurricane, the Whirlwind was far in advance in speed and climb up to 15,000 feet. We had tremendous capability low down...

...the Whirlwind was the best machine that I have ever flown in my fifty years in the air. It was just great, no question about it. It was easy to fly and the only tricky thing was the tremendous jump in speed with which we were faced for landings and takeoffs. Once we got that down, we could land the thing without an airspeed indicator, relying only on the sound. It was a very fine aeroplane...

The Whirlwind was a wonderful but neglected aeroplane."

Jim Coyne DFC RCAF & 263 Squadron Whirlwind pilot.

From an article entitled "Flying the Whirlwind - Interception and Ground Attack in an Unsung Yet Remarkable Aeroplane."

This is my blue screen test... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Early days yet, I need to animate the cockpit and make it look less of a photo and more like... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif Well a real one!

The finished clip will only last for a second or two, but it will be a nice little effect to have... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

It might be easier to try and find another A/C cockpit to use, certainly it would save a lot of time... Any idea's, late war - early 50's twin engine with bubble canopy, single seat aircraft...

How much longer than this clip is the original footage and does anyone know where i can see it or download it?

It was a few minutes worth - lots of pilots strolling toward their Whirlwinds, take offs, over land and over coast. I've got some data on discs - might be on one of them, but I'm not too optomistic. Hang on, I've just had an idea...

Sorry old chap, been trawling through the original Whirly-Whiner thread and finding loads of broken links. No joy, I'm afraid. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Nice idea with the pic though - the one I had in mind could be taken as disrespectful.

Mind you, not as disrespectful as my special Whirly song wot I wrote... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

The fellow with the limp is S/L Geoff Warnes, DSO DFC, CO of 263 Squadron.

In February 1944, after the squadron had been re-equipped with Typhoons, Warnes' engine failed over the channel as a group of 263 aircraft returned from France. Warnes ditched, and could be seen by the other aircraft having difficulty entering his dinghy.

F/O Robert Tuff radioed he was going to help, and parachuted into the water near Warnes.

The other aircraft were forced to leave, and neither Tuff nor Warnes were ever seen again.

According to a site I have no desire to link to (for what I hope are obvious reasons) Warnes was one of Moseley's B.U.F. blackshirts. Anyone got any further information?

Hi L_F

What do you reckon, better lead in to the engine start, or is it to drawn out?

Took some time to get those interior shots and make them look authentic, well nearly...

Still looking for some takeoff shots from a grass airstrip... Its like looking for hens teeth... Ha!

Well..... It suddenly goes from silent movie to lovely engine noise. But...the walking & cockpit shots do lead in rather nicely. I'd dub in some subtle "Rhubarb, rhubarb, chuckle" on the walking shot, and a few clicks and springy pumpy noises in cockpit. Maybe a "contact" dubbed in would be too 'seen-it-all-before'? However, you're doing a great job without this frustrated ol' luvvie's input. D@mn fine show so far. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
