After the ignominious end to my previous career, I began a new one: 1943, 7th Flotilla, U-750. Commander is Emmanuel Kant (6th cousin of Immanuel).

Started out bagging a small merchant ...

... then a C2.

Got another small merchant. Received a convoy report after weather turned bad. Obtained good position and attempted a sonar attack using the 1st generation sonar.

Four torps fired, including a FaT and a Wren. All torpedoes missed.

Encountered another small merchant in the continued bad weather. It took two torps to get the kill.

Finally got a lone T3.

All in all, I€d describe it as pathetic. It would appear philosophers €" even cousins of philosophers €" don€t make good U-boat captains.

Well, on your next patrol the categorical imperative is going to kick in and your boat will get sunk. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As it happens, I just finished patrol 2, with brief interruption to watch Survivor. Other than 5% hull damage (hull at 95%), I did reasonably well - around 40K tons. Nearly half of that came on a convoy attack - took out a T3 with a FaT and a Troop Ship with a spread of T3s. I was subjected to a phenomenal number of air attacks but managed to survive.

Apropos of categorical imperatives, the most "moral" person won Survivor tonight. The runner-up knifed too many people in the back.

Okay, looks like the enemy is living by Kant's IC. You're lucky! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The most moral person might have won Survivor, but it's the bad guys who get the girl. Too many girls are into bad boys. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

In my experience, it goes both ways. There are the men who are lady-killers and the women who are maneaters. I've known a number of women over the years who had an almost hypnotic power over men - like a candle over a moth. One guy after another would spiral in and flame out. It was amazing to watch.

What's really interesting is when a bad guy and a bad girl get together. Everyone knows (including the participants) it's going to be short-lived but while it lasts the pyrotechnics are phenomenal to watch.
