Haven't flown it too much, but so far it feels like a way different plane than it did in Combat Flight Sim 2 and EAW.

What do you mean?? Do you fly warts?? I don't think a wart would even get off the ground.....

I never really knew anything about the P38 but with my experience now flying it in FB, believe me I'm reading anything I can get my hands on about the aircraft. I've had every version since the first Il2 and I've never got into the sim like I am now, flying the P38 in the islands. Love it!

I have never seen a P-38 in a sim that treated it much different than a standard FM with torque removed.

And now this, and the 110G... they power through turns and maneuvers that I would think twice about pushing in a single engine fighter. Two props and two tails makes a good difference. Just get used to the drop a P-38 can go through in almost if not every nose-low maneuver! It's not a plane to fly really low the same as the single engine birds, oh no!

Yeah, I like the power of the 110 too. For such early designs they have to me very good low and midspeed acceleration.

I've had it with the wing 10 ft off the ground in a full hard turn, and at 7500m. It feels good everywhere. It's pretty cool to have a plane you can carry big bombs with, and DF the snot out of it on the way home.

Well said!

It's not the fastest.

It's not the best turner.

It isn't the best climber (although she ain't half bad!)

She doesn't have the most firepower.

But she is everywhere!! Kind of refreshing from the way things used to be, i.e. 109 vs Yak vs LA vs KI......

Thank God that is slowly fading!

I LOVE the P-38!

All I can say is I've waited to see this plane in this sim for a very long time now. My wife heard me call it "the P-38 Addon" more than she heard me call it AEP. "Why do you like that particular plane so much?" she asks. You know what? I really don't know what to tell her, because I remember first seeing it when I was a kid. In the 60's it looked like the coolest thing since the Batmobile. (I'd love to see a Batman skin for this baby, btw.) Funny thing is: they were all decommisioned, and with the exception of a few survivors, melted down as scrap. What a horrible ending for such a beautiful girl! By the time that my kids are grown, there may not be even one left for them to look at in real life. This virtual Lightning is the closest they may ever get to it, and I am loving every minute of it. "You got a P-38, Daddy!" my 7 yo son says.

Have you guys ever met a woman that, upon first appearances, seemed rather "plain Jane"? . . . But soon realized that there was something about her that made her sexy as hell? Well, that's the P-38! I got into a dogfight with an A6M, and I managed to tear its wing off after what had to be a half-hour battle. I was soon killed by his wingman who was nice enough to wait till we were finished, and I really didn't mind. I learned that you can stand the P-38 straight up on its boom at 40kph, and not lose control. I learned that I can extend away from the Zero at speeds the Zero cannot come close to, then climb straight up for my turn, doing the P-38 version of a hammerhead. If the Zero tries me headon, God help him.

I have fallen head-over-heels in love . . . with a virtual airplane.

P-38 is my true love as well.. =]

It does especially well against late-war homers in their uber G10's, K4s and P51/47s because it can hang with them in a turning engagement and pop them from long range if they go vertical on you.

Me likey long time!

And.. I've FINALLY figured out how to make a fighter-only campaign with the P38's.. so I'm in heaven both offline AND online!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

P38 is fun...Got me out of a 109 for this first time in awhile.

Allied side I usually grab P47 and P38 now.... 110 is a joy also.

Translation: It is easier to attack than the afformentioned Russian and Japanese AC. And a bigger target for the Mk 108.

That about cover it?

That's just a bug, like with the M163. It'll be fixed in the patch.

I love the P-38.. as a target. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Not that I'm any good at gunnery, that's beside the point. It's a very easily identifiable plane even without icons. And you have twin hulls to hit. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi all,
Yep the P38 is something am looking forward to in Aces. So much power! On the same note my next best plane to fly has gotta be the Mossie. It's going to be interesting to see how different they feel to a single engine fighter/bomber. Good stuff!

It's the Airbrakes that make the P-38L a mean killer, I think that's why it hasn't been modeled as a stable gun platform in AEP otherwise it would be Uber. Those airbrakes can make you do some amazing turns and get right behind someone and slow down very quickly.

Go to your FB directory and find the folder called "DGen". Look into it and find a file called "pnesRuF.dat", open it and add "P_38J" and "P_38L" after the LaGG planes (or before the P-39s). Then when you start a russian fighter campaign, the P-38 is a option in the campaign plane list that you added it to.

For example:

[Kubanlate43]
YAK_9D
YAK_9
SPITFIRE5B
LAGG_3SERIES66
LA_5
LA_5F
LA_5FN
YAK_7B
YAK_1B
P_38J
P_39N
P_40M

[Crimea44]
YAK_9D
YAK_9
LA_5F
LA_5FN
LAGG_3SERIES66
YAK_3
P_38J
P_38L
P_39Q1
P_40M

This means that in the Kuban '43 campaign and Crimea '44 campaign you can choose the P-38s for your plane in that campaign. Simple as that.
