How do the 71.89s compare to the 71.84s?

I am currently running the 84s on a 6800GT and use perfect settings online. Any improvement with the 89s? Any problems?

if you have a 6x00 card (i have the GT as well)

i highly recommend that you try the 76.x drivers they are only for our cards. a world of difference than the more compatible 7x. series for all cards.

get em at http://www.guru3d.com - they are WHQL. the 76.45 drivers are so good that i have simply stopped even wondering about drivers anymore.

install them, go into the game and pause it. while paused, looking at the sky, you should be getting 90fps at least ( i get about 180fps, but im on a FX-53). if your not seeing good speed. uninstall, run a driver cleaner, reinstall the SAME DRIVERS. its not about the version, its about the install.

godspeed.

Well, I'm in love with the 76.44's but agree! install either and you're good-to-go.

Driver Cleaner is a MUST!!

I went to guru to download these drivers as I have the same card as well. But it say it is for the Win xp 64 version.? I dont have the XP64 version. Am I looking at the wrong drivers?

Cheers,

Hi,

Does this Driver Cleaner Pro 1.1 really work? Is so how much of a difference does it really make in Frames per Second (FPS)?

Take into consideration medium nvidia card (FX5700) running on Windows XP (SP2).

Just curious because I don't want to waste my time with it unless it really works.

Thanks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Yes, Driver Cleaner really works.

Sorry for the late response.
I won't install new drivers without running it first anymore. As the newer drivers get more complex it is essential to avoid conflicts with artifacts of your old drivers that may remain on your system.

It is a hassle, be sure, but it does work.

Apprecitate your response. However, does this actually increase FPS in game? If so by how much?

Thanks again

In general, no.

In general, it doesn't do much of anything. It just deletes files that are in 99% of cases overwritten anyway when you install new drivers.

It's always recommended, but I only use a driver cleaner when switching between driver series (from a 5x.xx set to a 6x.xx set, for example), when installing a new card, or when using unofficial drivers. If you like installing beta drivers every week it's probably a good idea to clean out the old ones each time, but if you like installing beta drivers every week you're probably the type of person to do it anyway.

If I have to install drivers that come without an installer, I'll use the driver cleaner. Otherwise I trust Nvidia to do it for me. And I'm lazy.

It *probably* won't help your frame rates. It actually probably won't do anything, but if it *does* do anything it will probably be something far more obvious.

The only problem I've *ever* had that was fixed by using a driver cleaner and reinstalling my drivers was a very big, obvious one. Pixel shaders in all games showed up as big, flickering, patchy blobs on my old GeForce 4 Ti4200. Deleting and reinstalling drivers did the trick.

Generally driver cleaners fix or prevent errors like that. They don't magically give you frames per second.

Anyone know how good the 77.x drivers are?

ElAurens,

Normally you would say, better, but that's not true for Il2.

If you want excellent, any Nvidia driver will do, but if you want perfect mode (water=3), you're in for a treat.

I've got a 6800Ultra and tried all the latest Nvidia drivers (beta's and whql) but got disappointed every time. The latest Nvidia drivers run fine with any other game, but have big trouble running IL2 in perfect mode.

Later Nvidia drivers e.g. produce micro stutters when viewing land (and water=3) and this has not been fixed in any Nvidia driver since xp32 71.25 (i.e. I still have'nt found one...)

Latest beta for xp64 (76.80) e.g. let's you see right through ships (they are partially transparant) and still produce stutters over land. In addition, it's impossible to use 2xAA. because the screen flickers big time. 4xAA on the other hand, works fine (??).

To my knowlegde, Nvidia has'nt made a single driver since 71.25 (xp32) and 70.80 (xp64) that works with IL2's perfect mode and water=3.

I'm still waiting for a better Nvidia driver ;-(

My 2 cents.

Running the XG 76.45bHD on my 5800 Ultra, everything runs great. The "stock" nVidia 76.45's would run fine in games, with the exception of PF, Windows Media Player was also borked.
With the XG's I get the benifits of the excellent 76.45's w/o the problems of the "stock" nVidia version.

Hi
Well I ran DxDiag on my system and it says I am running a 6.14... driver with my 6800GT..
AMD64
1.5Gb RAM
XP (not 64bit) SP2
On HL I get in the 30's and 40's in a busy room running Perfect and water=3. On Desktop it's a little better.
I guess I'm a little behind with drivers??
Thanks.

Swede51,

If you can run it perfect with acceptable framerates, there's really no need to update ;-)
Every time I updated it only got worse ;-)

I just tried the 77.13 and they looked good at first. Micro stutters had gone; now nano stutters ;-). But, with 77.13 you can see through the Buffalo from underneath right into the cockpit and carriers become transparant for some reason and the stutters reappear once you're in a busy dogfight.

But, 6.14, which version is that? Should'nt there be a number after that?

I get my drivers at:

I just had this machine built last Christmas and when they asked me what vid card I wanted I said 6800 Ultra, but they couldn't get ahold of an Ultra at the time so I settled for a GT. So whatever driver was available at the time was what they installed.
DxDiag says..

Main Driver: nv4_disp.dll
Version: 6.14.0010.6693(English)
WHQL Logo'd: yes

Device Manager says;

Driver Version 6.6.9.3

So, whatever that means...?

Swede51,

You're lucky, 66.93 works fine with perfect mode although the water is rendered a bit slower than 71.25. I also had them, but found that 71.25 produces better frame rates.

I'm using the 71.89 driver for my 6800 Ultra, seems to work well, faster by about three or four frames per second than the 66.93 I was using. I run perfect, water=1.

I test every driver that appears and 71.25 are the only option for me.
I dont know what these driver have, but are the only stutter free ones.
Maybe older ones, worked well too, but after testing the whole 7X.XX series, they are my only option.

I´d love that anybody could discover what is their secret. I use water=3, Aniso=2 , AA=4

The 76.45s are the best for IL2 on my box.

luke97,

Same for me ;-) It lookes like the moment Nvidia decided to go for SLI, things got worse. 2xAA not working, screen flickers, big stutters and graphical anomolies (transparancy or missing textures).

I hope they release a driver for us single card users right after 4.0 that workes flawlessly with Il2 and perfect mode and water=3 ;-)
