Didn't ATI announce just a short time ago that they were not going to release a card with pixel shader 3? Well apparantly now they are.

Ati have had a SM 3.0 card since November! Its called the X1300/X1600/X1800 or X1K series.

Shaders 3.0 is metrosexual computing. Real men use Shaders 2.

I think you need to have it on water = 3 to get the shaders 3 effects.

ATI shaders 3.0 is not the same as Nvidia's shaders 3.0

Ati uses smoke and mirrors and does not work properly with PF.

Yes ATi has taken a different path to SM 3.0 than nVidia did, but it has been stated in many review than nVidia's way is not more correct than ATi's is.

And ATi's SM 3.0 works just fine, get the new Dll files and enable water=2 and you get the same water as you do with nVidia's Water=3 or 4!

And is you wanner talk smoke and mirrors, lets talk about nVidia Image quality...! And their preformance lose if you enable High Quality in many games.

EDIT: And just so you know, the water you hold so dear is not SM 3.0, i can be dont just fine on Sm 2.x! The only problem is that i can be very heavy on the graphicscard, but non the less i can get on my 9800XT card.
So Ati is not using any smoke or mirrors on anything.

There is one significant difference. ATI does not support Texture Prefetch. Most games don't use this feature as it doesn't apparently work very well.

New PF upgrades mean that Water=3 is now useable in the form of Water=2 on ATI cards. Even my Radeon 9700Pro can do it....not well...but it can.

Test of the All-In-WonderX1800 XL thingy against the nVidea 7800GT...not that I know much about technical stuff. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Hi guys, couldn't help but offer my 2 cents worth with this topic!

I have the new dll's and am using a PowerColor Radeon 9800XT. "Water=2" with these dll's is very, very good and the hit on frame rate is not really noticeable in most situations.

Some screen shots with these new dll's

BTW try "Effects=2" for richer smoke and damage effects!

Cheers, CrazySchmidt. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Am I missing something? I thought the new dlls were just for the Nvidia boys!?

You is wrong. Can't get the white, breaking waves in water=2.

Ok, everyone seems to know - but me. What is meant by the "dll" file, and where do I get it?
I'm using ATI's X800 card.

DLL stands for Dynamic Linked Library. In laymans terms its just a file that helps the software along. In this case, upgraded DLL files for Pacific Fighters have boasted performance and visual improvements.

The changes affect only Perfect mode.

Water=0 remains as before only faster
Water=1 as before only faster
Water=2 is now officially enabled and has the 3D animated waves which can be run on cards using Shader 2.0 or SM3.0 (even my old Radeon 9700Pro can do it)
Water=3 SM3.0 enabled nVidia cards
Water=4 also for nVidia cards with extra render details

Are these dll's part of a patch or are they separate? If so where can I get them?

You can find them in the very first post in the Ready Room. Its the number one sticky right now.

Direct link: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/63110913/m/8891044193

Let me warn you that you may want to wait for the next patch to experience these enhancements unless you feel comfortable dropping them into your IL2 directory. Its more of an enthusaists beta test at the moment.

For some no problem...for others it is.

Thanks. So they are going to be included in the next patch then? I may go ahead and try them to see what happens.
