Ok, here we go again!

I posted these before but I was trying out my new camera and I suppose our newer members would like to see this. What we have here is an East German Mig-21 and an Antonov An-2, both belonging to a local eccentric millionaire who collects junk and displays it on his castle grounds. He also has a lot of older German machinery on his lot like Mercedes-Benz trucks, MB Unimogs and Setra buses. He also has old bulldozers rusting on his land.

If anyone wants specific HQ 2256 x 1500 shots , tell me which particular one you want and I will host them on Imageshack and post them here. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We begin with the Antonov An-2. Probably was made in Poland like the vast majority of them. There was a plaque on the engine which surprisingly read in English, "Made in Poland". No cockpit shots this time fellows, the door was locked!

I didn't know the MiG-21 was equipped with a RATO-bottle in the tail-cone!

Or is that something the giant east-german mig-spider has dragged in to bottle-feed her babies with?

Or maybe a bait to catch some unsuspecting alcoholic?

Skarphol: The only way to escape the boredom's of communism was to keep a little Vodka flask somewhere on your plane where the political officers least expected it to be. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My best guess would be the braking parachute...

MiG-25 was known as the flying bar because the alcohol used to cool the electronics was purer than the Vodka on most airbases, so allegedly ground crew quickly worked out exactly how much they could get away with siphoning out of the system without causing failures. I would imagine that this would be especially important at remote bases in winter...

Great pics!Again,as usual,you're quite talented with a camera,and you must have a really good one.Hasselblad ?

A few years ago,I was at an airshow, and there was an AN-2 there.
They were showing how slow it could fly without stalling, and made a pass by the crowd at 35 mph,it was unbelievable.

Thank you. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have a Nikon D40 DSLR camera and so far I am really loving it. Snapping pictures with this thing is just addicting. Too bad it's raining today like crazy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

I've heard of the slow speed qualities of the AN-2, but 35 mph!? Damn! How does something like this manage to fly at that speed? I mean it's not exactly a light plane. Must be those "bi-wings"! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And yep, this guy is eccentric as hell and has all these other "Communist" relics on his lot. He has a statue of Lenin in his garden and another statue of some Czech communist leader (Godfried Karl or something like that) in his garden. There's an An2 at an airfield very close to where I work. It's used all the time for parachute jumps. It does go incredibly slow, it's actually painful to watch it as you expect it to stall at any minute, especially when doing steep climbs. 'Sounds like an old tractor too. It's so much a feature of the town that most people don't pay much attention to it, but I love the throaty sound of that engine on a sunny day.

Hi guys,

i love the photos really. This guy indeed has a AN-2 on his lawn! After seeing that you like the old lady AN-2, let me tell you about it.

This is one of my favourite planes of all time! It has an incredible story, from drawings to this day. She is STILL in service, although her maiden flight was on 31 August 1947!!!
I have 2 or 3 hours flying the AN-2 and I can assure you that she in incredible! To take off you would need below 100 meters and speed around 70-75 kph! Full throttle and empty ofcourse http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif With payload of 11 skydivers and two pilots she can climb steadily @ 5-10 meters per second (depends on the weather) Also incredible lift. Reponse is a bit slow (1-2 seconds after the input) but when it goes, it is unstoppable! One of the best features is the manual propeller pitch control. Before starting the engine, which is 9 cylinder, 33000 cc, 4 men are needed to spin the propeller by hand, because of the vertical layout the oil slips in the 3 lowest cylinders and that's lethal! This is quite hard work though! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I also have 10 jumps out of her and i know for sure that this is to this day the plane of choice for international skydive championships and other stuff.

You can get information of AN-2, drawings, versions and everything @
