Its great I think, great weather, cem that works like it should, real sounds, full world terrain and so many free addons will keep you busy for years.

If you enjoy flight sims also check out xplane 8.0 its physics are unmatched.

The only downfall is no dogfighting but freeflight is an experience all of its own.

I dunno pingu i think the scenery is alot better then il2 especially above 1000m, also the airfields etc. Fs9 does look like bad terrain if its not on highest detail. But the draw distance, visability and map mesh edges even on highest not transforming like in il2 is amazing.

Il2 looking slightly better 500-1000m but all the houses are the same and scaled way to small and trees il2s green bar grass looks horrid i think ians maps textures are great tho on normandie and his new maps and look much different then lime green everything which are terrible looking compaired to fs9 I think but everyone has thier own opinions.

I'd want fs9 full world scenery anyday over a small square map which is a giant leap backwards in the flightsim community in my opinion. Flight sims get boring even for the diehard players, new terrain and aircraft to learn are what keep things to continue to be interesting.

stock scenery

Then some freeware and payware scenery,

il2 has some pretty terrible looking scenery up high and even 3000-5000m

then under 1000m looks descent

Brilliant video. Thanks for sharing.

FS9 is a great product. It shows that is a true labour of love. Surely it's not optimised for aerial combat (simple LODs, no damage, etc), but the landscape and weather engines are years ahead of IL2. It's a very enjoyable piece of software. Highly recommended for anyone with only the slightest interest in aviation.

FS may look good at altitude and has its goodies as Leaddie said.
It's a bit steril from life though and even if one tries to pack it with airtraffic it's feels too dead (for me).
I really enjoyed the helicopters flying around trees and such but the landscape and features and lack of missionbuilder, where one easily could group object, was too limited for the long run.

Il2 on the other hand have very adjusted terrain for dogfighting and wich also works very well on low altitudes.
The cleaness of the terrain makes an ok field of vis for combat wich for example FS is not suited for with its strange close up terrain wich is awfull.
il2 has limitations too ofcourse but even in an fairly empty dogfight arena there is life and activity and this is very important to me.

But then, life has many angles and FS may be a good addition in manys flight hobby I belive.

my dad does most of his flyin at low level, and around local airfields, u cant tell where you are on the default scenary, its just vomit over some gentle terrain.

fs2004 is good, if u replace everything it seems
