The novel Alamut by Vladimir Bartol was one of the inspirations for AC. Though it's an allegory for fascism more than historically correct.

The Assassins of Alamut (http://www.acampbell.ukfsn.org/assassins/index.html) is a free source of information.

Then there's "Travels in the valleys of the assassins" I forget who wrote that.

"The Templars and the Assassins: The Militia of heaven" by James Wasserman

@_@ There's more on Amazon. The historical assassins were Nizari Ismaili Muslims so search accordingly I would suppose.

It would seem that many (http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&tag=mozilla-20&index=blended&link%5Fcode=qs&field-keywords=Alamut&sourceid=Mozilla-search) books have been written about them. Alamut is the one most-referenced on these forums, so I just did a search for that. Take your pick, I guess.
