View Full Version : Bf 109 Slat Sounds

I may be looney but I seem to remember slat sounds for the 109.

I.e. you start pulling large G's w/ High AOA to make the slats deploy and then you would here a BANG! or BANG!BANG! when the slats reached extension (if done quickly).

Am I going out of my mind? If not, how do I turn this back on?

I have never experienced slats on the 109 or any plane?!?

Surely there should be a bang and the plane will shake suddenly?

The Bf109 seems to turn totally smoothly to me, Idont remember any time I noticed the slats come out?

Those slats pop out all the time when you are taking turns in a dog fight. It is pretty neat to watch. I guess having a TrackIR opens up a lot more of the sim that I notice that I did not before I had one.

I've played IL2 since Forgotten Battles, and have never heard slat sounds. (And I've always been aware of their existence on some planes).

I've never heard it in IL-2, but I seem to recall hearing it in another game.

Aces High got those sounds.Realistic or not,who knows.(probably those who have flown such an aircraft) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I don't hear slat sounds per se, but I do hear the air sound associated with stalling. Is that maybe what you are on about?

remember hearing (not a clue where) that some green luftwaffe pilots would hear the bang and think they had been hit, whereas the experten knew that was the point at which they could really start dog fighting, so maybe the sounds should be there?

Are you guys really suggesting you could hear the slats come out OVER the insanely loud engine that would make the pilot almost deaf? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The slats have alway come out with high AoAs and/or low speeds on the Bf109s and all other so-equipped planes in IL2 but there is no sound associated with it, you are mixing it up with Aces High and WWIIOL, those two "feature" these unrealistic sounds.

Sounds? probably not.

the slats in question deploy very easily. They are not mechanically activated, and they should respond to light finger pressure on the ground

Right, I do realize that they do infact deploy. And it a lot of cases deploy smoothly. Also, the roar of the engine would muffle the sound.

But, I could have sworn that I did hear the deployment of the slats in a previous patch/version of IL2 either proper or FB...

Using TrackIR it's easy to see them deploy as one noses over for a BnZ. In a turn fight they do deploy, as the should, quite violently.

I would think if you can hear a .30 cal hit the plane from a range of say 500+ meters over the engine, you could hear these slats deploy.

I am quite convinced I have heard it in FB as I play this exclusively and have for quite some time.

You do hear them over an Engine in real life, you also feel them through the seat. they don't always come out smoothly, Have felt them bang out in real life too.

Ahh hahhhh... I didn't think I was a loon. (at least this proves I'm not the only one)

Wonder if it's in that old (sound).dll every one talks about that seems to be better in some instances.

Yup, your are correct here. The slats would come out with a bang that it'd make the green pilots break of their attack, thinking they were taking hits.
This led the RAF to believe that their planes could outturn the me109 at high-g turns 'because it caused the ME109 to stall and break away". The RAF pilots that tried this tactic against the experten naturally never got to tell their story.

Now you can understand why so many on this forum believe that some planes are undermodelled, and overmodelled.

But back to the original topic.. I cannot say that I've heard the slats bang. I just know that when everything is shaking like crazy - I must be carefull.
