Thanks, so our Skippy Mk. 21 should have 4 x .50s in its wings?

Edit* Oh, it does. Silly me.

funny, i was thinking about this plane earlier this week. could never really discern its origin. was it intended as an all weather interceptor, long range escort fighter, light bomber, or a naval strike bomber?

such a versatile plane

thanks for the info

wish we also had or would get the early no-dihedral tail...much more manuverable

402 gave us 250rpg 20mm...2x the 125rpg from 3xx/401....though pourshot produced docs that show 299 rpg is possible...oh well

still needs AI gunner, 200lbs removed, or verbal threat warning from "gunner"

treat this brick with respect...wether flyin it or fightin it...cuz it can BITE

Hmm, so the XXI we have was a version of the T.F.X. I wonder why the R.A.A.F removed the rear gunner? With the more powerful engines and both stages of supercharger gears enabled, giving them roughly 320mph : 515km/h @ 10,000ft : 3,048m, I guess they thought they could outrun the enemy?!? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Although, in-game there are some handy pilots with that Beau, with no rear protection, it's just a target in the long run. hehe

rear gunner was also obsever, radio operator, and bartender

RAAF mk 21s DID have provision for vickers .303s, some carried them stowed, fewer had them ready....most were left behind as dead weight, as beaus could dive and easily outpace most JP single enigine fighters

as mk 21s DID have them, why not give them the gun (or at least verbal threat warning, what else is the guy in back doing?)...plus this makes the 21 a suitable stand-in for Xs as well...which most certainly had 303s at the ready in most cases

I love the Beau, but without a rear gunner,or at least a threat warning, she's just an easy target.

By the time the XXI entered in RAAF service, the aerial opposition was very weak, they probably considered thet the rear gun was more unuseful added weight than anything else. Also the field of fire of the rear gunner wasn't that good.

Ok, thanks guys, that makes sense about the rear gunner.

Unfortunately, a lack of aerial opposition is not a problem in this game on most servers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hmmm, that must have been a great job for the observer. I can hear the pilot now...

"Hey, stick your head up into that glass bubble and see if anybody shoots at you." http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Didn't the observer also reload the cannons?

Daiichidoku

yes, he reloaded the earlyier beaus with drum magazines

21s had beltfeed, no reloading necessary

look at the latest beau thread in ORR...should still be first page by now...if not, second page

pourshot has vintage documents showing 21s had beltfed 20mms, and all told, would loadout at 299rpg..we have 250rpg now, since 402, better than 125(!)rpg previously...still be nice to have those extra 49 thohttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

pourshot also has vintage documents that show indeed, 21s had provision for, and indeed carried (albiet rarely) vickers .303s in the rear
