Oh dear...this is like the third time im explaining this http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif...

The word Eagle in Arabic is not Al-Tair...it is Al-Nisr...though Al-Tair means the thing that flies...not precisely an eagle...nor a bird...

Hi,

FableB is right. As long as I'm arabian too, Altair means anything flies and it's pronounced like this: AT.TA.IR

They are wrong. "Eagle" would be from the Semitic root "nsr" and not "t'r." The former is eagle (n'sir in Arabic, Nesher in Hebrew) while the latter doesn't translate quite as well into the modern versions of either language but is something that takes to the air. In all fairness to the writer, Semitic languages are not easy for most English speakers.

Altair is the twelfth brightest star in the night sky. I got this from a reliable source, the links below. It does mention the Arabic translation means 'The Flyer'.

It just seems like a lot of people have been repeating others lately. All you need to know is fear FableB's copyright wrath!

Bearing in mind that Semitic languages tend to not translate well into English, "The flyer" is as good an approximation as any.
