Here's an awesome video of combat gun camera.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it a gun camera or a vintage war movie?

Enjoy

Ive seen it before but dont know the source of that clip. Im fairly certain thats it not Zero's however, even with the bad quality you can see the silhouette is not that of a Zero but rather something like Ki-27 or Ki-43 (more Ki-43 imo).

Well, two things are sure:

1) That's not 'gun camera' footage. It's filmed on external.

2) Sounds are fake.

3) Japanese China war propaganda?

Awesome clip....Notice the split-s type of roll outs which was a trademark attack and defense move for all japanese pilots......

They're deffinately NOT Ki-27's (no gear), and It's very hard to tell if they're A6M2's or Ki-43-I's.....I'll have to look at it more to tell, great clip though!

(betting they're Ki-43s and the clip possibly from the hard sought for movie "Kato hayabusa sento-tai" (and looks like there was a remake of it in 1970 in color! "Rikugun hayabusa sentotai"))

If you can find a place to get either of those films in DVD, I'd appreciate knowing, Billfish. I have a universal DVD player which can play any nation's DVDs. Do you know a good source for Japanese films? Looking for an epic made about Togo and Tsushima. Thanks

I think its because its speeded up film.

*rubs red, sore eyes*

Well, I've watched that in full screen mode, frame by frame about six times now. I'm sure I can just make out the ghost of a spatted undercarriage in a couple of places. Plus the narrower looking wing chord and more slender wing tips make me think its Ki-27's we're seeing there *rub rub*

I too am in the hunt for Kato hayabusa sento-tai. If anyone sees it and wants to give a review....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I ordered the DVD---Mlle Billfish thinks it may be the classic WWII Kato film. Will have it in about a week and will report. Heh heh---the universal DVD player I bought two years ago was a wise investment.

That sequence was posted some month ago and I wouldn't be surprised if that is a propaganda mock-up fight between the new Ki-43 and JAAF a/c like Ki-10 in the victim role. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

(the biplane is definetly no I-153.)

Its an I-15 tho...the early I-15's don't have the gull wing. Or they did and the I-15bis didn't have the gull wing...either way...still could be an I-15. The attacking plane is definately a Ki-27 and not a Zero.

i have seen ground based camera footage of ki-27's attacking Chaika's

it shows off just how aggressive they whipped those planes around

Where is the gear if a Ki-27?.......Once again I'd lean toward a Ki-43 simply due to the footage, yet A6M's were actually not that far off wing wise (similar from a top view).........Though pausing it I could swear in one frame it looked like an A6M canopy, and the fuselage seems a little short for a Hayabusa.

Look at the wing leading edge of the pursuer. It's slightly swept forward, combined with the absence of the fixed wheels, it tends to be a Ki-43.
The victim a/c seems neither I-15 nor I-153. The upper wing leading edge is not interupted by the cowling (so far it can be seen on that poor quality footage)like both types had.

I don't think the biplane is a Polikarpov at all, neither a I15 nor a I153. The difference between the underwings' span and the upper wings' is to small. If this is a mock up fight the victim could be a Nakajima A4N1.

I am not sure about it beeing a Perry (Ki-10), the Perry also has a big difference in span between the wing pairs. Sure there IS a difference in wingspan in the film clip, but also, the edges of the Perry's wingtips are more squared, here it seems to be very rounded.

About the persuer. I have been eyeballing the flick a few times here and I can't discern a undercarriage at all.

I don't know... The Ki-27 has such thin wheel spats too. I want to say Hayabusa, but I really think they are Ki-27's http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif. If I were a betting person, I'd say Nate's. Just on the statistical probability of the volume of the type in the IJAAF inventory at the time they were facing I-15's and I-153's, as compared to the later Ki-43. And the ghost of an undercarriage that I can 'just' make out once or twice.

Don't want to start an argument though, We're all friends here right? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Edit: The faintest suggestion of undercariage that I thought I saw was about ten seconds into the track. Just a whisker less than halfway. Can anyone else pick it too?
