I just had a flight lesson, flying from Allentown, PA to my local airport doing some work on cross-country flight at 3000 feet, and I got called by Allentown Tower:

"Cherokee *****, watch traffic, C-130 at 3300 feet heading 060."

That's right! I got overflown by 300 feet by a C-130! That was D@MN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

I nearly got killed by a military chopper, taking off as I was crossing the runway of a nearby airport. I was going to cross the middle of the runway before entering downwind, and up he came. About the same seperation, 300'. Nearly pooed myself. There was no word of it on the radio, and I had, indeed called for airport info. The chopper pilot came up FAST, too! For all of you realism fans, I never once heard him over my little 140 HP engine.

Glad your near-miss was a miss, Mate http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I flew my Cessna Caravan in a traffic pattern with a pair of F16's. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif That was fun.

Glad you're alright. But that's cool anyway. When I was in Afghanistan, I had AH-64s flying over my room all the time. I slept during the day, worked nights. Sometimes I thought they were landing on my roof!

hey m8, be happy you weren't an iraqi living in SW iraqi during the first week or two of the war..we were flying 300 over them and they were standing on the ground http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
but the truely crazy thing is to overfly a group of blackhawks by 200 feet...when you are at 300 agl.
after about a week and a half they forced up to 500...then 600..then a few weeks after that it was airline alts(well, maybe not that high..but above 13k)

I'm in the Cherokee 140 as well. Although there are no Mustangs based at my local airport, we do have 2 AT-6's! I was fortunate enough to be overshot by one two days before last WW2 weekend. I was going 90mph and he was going 250 mph, and he was using his airshow smoke. It took me a while to clear that, I'll tell you! And having a plane buzz 50 feet over your head was scary and exciting too. I didn't hear him at all. But it's a hell of a lot of fun! After he did that, my Il2 battle senses kicked in and I tried to evade. Scared the shaete outta my instructor before he caught me.

Boosher, you live in Allentown? That's 45 mins from where I live, and about 20 mins from my school. You know where Perkiomen School is?

I saw a Stearman take off right after me, he was about 1000 feet away.

Unfortunatly, my instructor is medically grounded. I dont know if it's permanant or what. My Electrician takes lessons at my Airport, I'm hoping he'll intoduce me to one of the other instructors.

Nope, I live in NJ. It's about a 20 min. flight for me in the Cherokee, but I love landing there. And the C-130 is an awesome sight! We've got quite a few old planes hanging around. I think there's an L-4 as well, but it's never used. We also have a REALLY nice 2 seater from the 30's, it's a low wing monoplane, metallic, and very cool, not sure of the designation though.

Ah, my mistake. You ever land at Chester County Airport? I fly a 152 there. Haven't been able to fly much though, been at school. Hopefully can get a few flights in before I go back to school.

If you can make Allentown from NJ in 20, Chester County, depending on where you are in Jersey may only be 20 mins to an hour.

LOL,,if he dont land on Rt 46 first. I have sat at the public parking area right off Rt 46 and watched all the Learjets land as i ate my lunch so many times. Cool spot to watch them come and go. Just dont stand up too high while on RT 46, you can literally touch the landing gear when they go overhead. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Once taxi'd out behind a pair of F15s, made the wings on my little 172 rock a bit with their jet blast. Also got to park up next to some Falcons - those things are LOUD up close.

That was all at Klamath Falls (Kingsley Field, Oregon ANG). We were on our way down to Reno to see the air races at the time, nice trip!

Cheers, Spinner
