I'm sure this has been answered 1000 times before, but I'm gonna ask it anyway because I'm lazy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

At the start of AC1, after being pulled out of the animus for the first time, Vidic is telling Desmond that he's an assassin. Desmond responds with "I'm not an assassin...not anymore."

So wtf does this mean? I thought Desmond had no idea about the Templars or the Assassins.

Also, Vidic goes on to talk about an "escape" that resulted in Desmond no longer being an assassin...can anybody shed some light on this for me too?

Yeahh, I decided to replay ACI tonight and haven't gotten far enough to speak to Lucy yet.

He was somewhat aware. He mentions to Lucy the first time you talk with her that he has been living "off grid". No credit cards, used cash only, did not use his real name, no TV, the only thing he forgot about was the motorcycle license with his fingerprint.

Yeah, there's something a little off about this. Desmond seems fully aware of the Assassins in the first game and says he ran away from the compound he grew up in. It seems that he was told about the Templars, but he likely never saw them and thought they weren't real and his parents were crazy. But then in the intro to AC2, he says he's a prisoner of war. He goes on to say: "A war I never knew existed, waged by two groups I never thought were real -- Templars and Assassins." I guess we may just be interpreting it wrong. Desmond never says he doesn't know about the Assassins or Templars, just that he didn't think they were real. It's likely he thought his parents were crazy and the Order of Assassins wasn't actually real. He definitely didn't think the Templars were real, even though I imagine his parents warned him about them many times.
