OK I know that there is someone who has figured out how to install 1946 Il2 on windows 7 64 bit os. Is it possible ? and how does one do so ?

The best way is not to do a proper install at all. If you have an older copy of the game that's patched up to where you like it on another hard drive or even on a USB stick or whatever, just copy the game into your Windows 7 environment. Just put it anywhere but the Program Files folder.

IL2 does not need a proper installation because it does not need registry changes to run. The three or four registry entries that do get installed when you do a regular install are not important in the least. I have a hard drive with Win7, a hard drive with XP on it ( I can boot into either by a bios edit ) and a third 10,000 RPM Raptor hard drive. I access the the game on the Raptor when in Win7 or XP. Works perfectly!!

Works fine with Win7, but I create my own "Games Folder" on the C: drive for installation. As Mortama mentioned, I don't install anything to the "Program Files (x86)" folder. The game will still run fine, but putting games there complicates making edits to the game and config files.
