On the plus side, it is, like most biplanes, extremely agile- great for aerobatics. Biggest minus is that the engine is rather fragile; when hit the windscreen gets covered with oil very quickly, almost like a Bf-109!!!!! Firepower is also underwhelming- I still like the Gladiators best of all biplanes with the Chaika a close second. Having said that, the Avia adds another unknown/forgotten plane to the sim; the cockpit is a real gem.

Oh wow, really? I'd take a Chaika over a Gladiator any day.

I'm finding the Avia is pretty good at machine gunning trucks and other ground targets. As is the DXXI.

A flyable I15bis will be a real treat too.

Remember quality over quantity http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Historically it never really fought in the desert (spent more time in the snow on the Eastern Front) but I am sure there will be plenty of people wanting desert schemes for online MTO maps.

If no-one else comes up with one first, I will be sticking my ( very basic at present ) B534 PS template up on M4T sometime. I's not great but better than working from the the void.

EDIT: template 90% done, just need to add some marking layers, uploading tomorrow

Yeah Hispano Suiza engine was also an inline V12 , though not inverted like the Daimler Benz in the 109.

As for firepower the Czechs were sorting out problems with the new 20mm cannon armed variant at the time they were betrayed by the western allies and the design was handed over to the Germans.

The Avia should make a pretty decent Cr-32 hack...

Gladiator is like a flying brown paper bag. Chaika is a lovely little thing. Sure would love to see a flyable I-15 though.

I like the B-534'a low landing speed. That was a little surprising at first. It is almost controllable at under a 100kph. Feels like walking.

i'd be suprised if you can walk at 100kmh.

Yeah I think they have a nice gun RoF so that helps... anyway they are good for downing early bombers too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif .

Tchaika is IMHO one of the best performing planes of the period... in fact I consider it to be slightly superior to I-16 or at least it suits my flying!
Gladiator on the other hand can rely pretty much only on turning ability, as it is the next slowest thing to gliders... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Tchaika FTW in early battles... any day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif.

This track was recorded on Zeke vs Wildcat server... should depict Soviet v Japanese clashes... Tchaika can prevail vs some of the best turning IJA planes and that is kinda... really nice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif .

One-on-one B-534 dogfights are serious fun, though you have to believe you can pivot it on a wingtip to get the best out of it, and make sure you don't collide with your opponent. Even against faster opponents you can dodge most attacks you see coming.

I haven't got the hang of landing properly yet - still coming in too fast.

Which also would make an interesting campaign doing the Hungaruan/Slovak squabble early war. Slovak B534 against Hungarian Cr32 which in game are really hacked B534's http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Its a GREAT plane. I'm flying it often in qmb going against I-15's
so far those two are perfectly suited for some DF action.

Well .. at the Zurich Air Competition in 1937 teh Avia took 2nd place to the bf109 (D model?) in a close competition.

The 109 was considerably faster in a straight line but when it came down to navigating a tight race circuit there was only 11kmh difference in the average speed of the two planes.

Meanwhile I am quite happy with the current progress on my Avia skinning template (see below) and will upload it to M4T in the next few days.

No! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gifIt won't be as cool if I use a template to make B-534 skins, I a mnow a Dedicated B-534 skinner and flyer.

I'l have a look at your template, but chances are, I will still do the void.

I really like the looks of this plane. If you take wings and undercarriage away, it looks like a modern, retractable gear monoplane in the Hurri, D520 or Yak-1 class.

He he.

It might surprise you though to know that the plane in the picture is a 3D render. You can tell by looking at the pilot. So one day we will be flying planes like this in one game or another, even if it might take a few years before we reach that standard. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

thanx

Unless its a one off job I don't tend to use other peoples templates much either. HOWEVER .. if you are currently skinning from the void you should at least start creating your own personal templates. Especially with the B534 void which is pretty basic.

Its a great way of learning, add faded paint layers, weathering and dirt layers and play around with the panel lines to get them more realistic and three dimensional, try adding some shiny bits ... stuff like that.
